Video Games

I don't need much convincing. But I am being a cheapskate about it, so I added the game to my Gamefly rental queue. Hopefully I get it by Saturday.

Edit: Well, that was fast. It already shipped. If it shipped from my local GF warehouse in Los Angelless, I should have it tomorrow.

 

I want to max out the armor as well, which I'm sure requires freeing the Valkyries for materials, and who knows what else. But the only incentive I have for that is to replay NG+. I might jump on that any other time, but since Ragnarok is out I'd rather start into that. Hopefully this weekend if my copy arrives.

 

Maxing out the armor was a big want for me but honestly it's not very useful. You get it on the first NG+ and then you have to get through the whole game and Valkyries and at the end your up to I believe level 3 or 4. You have to play through again to get it maxed. And when I did it there was rumors of the new game and I was really hoping they would allow you to start the new game with it. I've seen other games give you extras at the beginning for doing something in the previous game. Now having started the new game that's not the case.

 

Man that's a lot of work. I'll definitely start on Ragnarok first before I commit to that. I wouldn't necessarily go for a Platinum either, but it makes sense that you got it without aiming specifically for it. Platinums aren't normally my thing, but I have a couple that I got from several replays. Ghost Recon Wildlands, for one. Loved and played that game so much, one day the Platinum just popped out of nowhere lol.

 

Any advice on what perks are best to have during V fights? I have found myself really depending on the stones Atreus drops and they've been the difference between life and death.

 

Wildlands was another favorite, I usually don't even look at the platinum until I'm near the end of the game, when I got to the end of God of War I was a few trophies away so when I played again I knew what to do. Wildlands was really fun as well but i fell off at breakpoint, I finished Wildlands like 2 weeks before the next one came out and I was just burned out on it. Same thing happened with Valhalla and I tried to jump right into the next one and I haven't touched it in months. Luckily I haven't played God of War in a long time so I'm excited playing the new one.

 

I can't remember my exact armor layout but I went fully into offense armor not defensive. More attack power and like I said eariler I wouldn't even try and block hits I would just keep rolling away from them until they do a power move where it takes them a second to reset and that's when I would attack.

 

I finished Wildlands back when it released, so I had a couple of years time before I jumped into Breakpoint. I have one playthrough on BP, but I want to go back and replay it after they added the AI Teammates, which was a stupid choice to not include them in the first place. I had installed it a couple of weeks ago and was going to start into it again, but glad I decided on God of War instead.

 

I might go in and play it again to get that terminator event done. It looked fun in the previews.

 

Yeah I usually dodge/roll for the first minute or so to get the pattern of moves down.

 

That's another incentive for me to replay as it hadn't released yet when I finished it.

Which reminds me, one day I was roaming around in Wildlands when I happened on the first clue on the Predator mission that I knew nothing about. I was like, "wait, I know this...". Then I stumbled on the next clue, and I'm like, "wait, are they ripping off what I think this is?". Then I got to the final area, the Predator theme kicked in, and I was like "NO F'ING WAY!!" and was so jaw-dropped that I froze. And when the Predator killed me cause I was still trying to get my head wrapped around what was happening, I was too stoked to even complain lol.

 

Yeah I had no idea either, once he dropped though I thought it was going to cut to a cut scene and he would disappear. I was so happy to find out you actually fight him. Night vision is cool, I wish it was more useful.

 

I finally managed!

 

I don’t say this lightly, but Ragnarok is better.

 

Terminator? I hadn’t heard this.

 

Yeah I don’t remember if I ever beat him.

 

That’s what I finally figured out the key to defeating Gna in Ragnarok was. Just start wailing and don’t let up.

It really is. Without giving up too much, in one sense, the 2018 version of GoW is better, as it was a complete reinvention of the series....and it came out of nowhere and wasn't what people were expecting.

GoW:R is kind of 'more of the same' but it only improves upon GoW, and it's overall better, I would agree.

 

I actually went back to GoW the other night to work on the Platinum after getting it on Ragnarok. I just have to round up some collectibles.
For a game that was so gorgeous when it came out, it looks pretty bad after just playing Ragnarok. Obviously PS5 vs PS4 is going to account for most of that, but it’s a bigger difference than I remember.

 

I felt the same way, but I thought the original looked that good. It wasn't until I popped it back in that I realized it wasn't. It looked great for its time but the new one is significantly better.

 

So even with the PS5 enhanced graphics, it still looks bad compared to Ragnarok?

 

Gow on ps4 pro and on ps5 has little difference. The motion blur is cut down slightly and that's about all I noticed. Raknarok on ps5 is drastically better. Crisper cleaner lines, 60hrz refresh rate makes motion blur almost nothing.

 

PS4 Pro I believe is 2160p/30 FPS, but the PS5 received an enhanced graphics patch that can do 2160p/60 FPS and 60 Hz refresh, so that's why I was wondering. It looks phenomenal on my OLED with the PS5.

 

Ragnarok looks a whole lot better in my opinion. Especially things like the flames on his blades. Not so much that GoW one looks bad, Ragnarok just looks vastly better.
The difference in the environment could be a big factor also. Ragnarok takes place in the snow and ice for the most part. A lot less life to the background. Without so much going on / moving in the background they were probably able to focus more on the rest. They didn’t have to animate as much nature.

 

Ah yeah, that makes total sense. I see exactly that happen when I'm on PC. Wide open areas with lots of screen activity will tend to stay at or just above the min FPS depending on the game and res settings, then I get into a small room and it jumps to 250 FPS lol.

 

COD mobile is shockingly great

 

There are places with water and vegetation like in the first also. I’d have to go back and see if there’s a significant graphical downgrade in those areas, but I didn’t notice it while playing.
Actually the more I think about it, quite a bit of the game is in non-frozen areas. I may have misspoken when I said most of it was in the snow. May be closer to 50/50.

 

Like @War Machine said, it's not like GoW looks like ass or anything. It's just that Ragnarok looks *THAT* much better in several ways. I mean, if you go play the GoW, it's not like you'll be displeased.
