They’ve only been out for a month or two, so hard to tell yet. No issues with my PS5 or Xbox Series X, but it’s only been a couple of weeks.
As for patience, I don’t see any reason for anyone to rush anyway. There’s nothing new for Xbox, and the few for PS5 aren’t groundbreaking. Played AC Valhalla on both PS4 and PS5, and there’s not a huge difference. Only thing noticeable is the load times. I’ll say they’re way faster than the previous generation.
Game downloads are a heck of a lot faster between PS4 and PS5, but not so much between the two Xboxes. In my experience Xbox has always taken a lot longer to download games than PlayStation has.

PS5 has been doing great so far. I've had it since 11/29 and there hasn't been a problem yet. Still getting used to the new UI on it compared to the PS4, but that's to be expected.

The UI does seem cleaner to me. Had to Google how to turn it off using the remote though.

The party and friend list thing works so differently that it takes some time to learn. Not a huge fan of that part of it, but loving everything else about it.

Been playing Escape from Tarkov on PC. First person shooter with a brutal learning curve. One of the big pain points is that you lose all the items you took with you if you die on a raid, so you dont necessarily always bring your best gear. Mix of PVE/PVP involving loading into maps to complete quests, loot new guns and armor, supplies, kill AI enemies and player enemies. Its sort of like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Metro if any of you played those games.

Haven’t messed with that yet since I’ve only played single player so far. What have you been playing?

Glad to hear no issues. It's impressive how advanced these system have gotten. Pretty much dedicated gaming PC's.

So far I've only played Destiny 2 and the Astro game they all come with. I've spent zero dollars on new games since getting it. None of the new ones have caught my attention enough to try.

I was dumb and didn't realize there was a PS5 version of D2 for a week or two, so when I finally downloaded that it was a noticeable change in the smoothness and speed. Kinda glad so I got to see the difference in the game side by side.

What ones have you been running?

Edit: I guess I should say have you been running anything besides Assassin's Creed?

Working just fine. Son and I have been playing the living crap out of it with no issues. I've thrown a variety of games at it (HZD, Assassin's Creed Odyssey/Valhalla, Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima, FFVII Remake, Demons Souls, etc.) with nary a hiccup. The only 'issue' I have, if you can even call it that, is themes....you can't set them right now.

Son would play a game and then I'd fuss @ him for 'changing the theme.' After the 3rd time of him telling me "DAD - go look - there's no themes to change," I finally decided to stop just assuming he was blowing me off and checked....and sure enough, they've not introduced themes yet. *shrug*

Aside from that, everything's worked great. I've even got a WD 2Tb external drive loading/running all my PS4 games, and it works just ducky.

Yeah, AC is all I’ve played on it so far. I haven’t bought anything either. AC was a free upgrade since I already had it on PS4. I’ll check out the Miles Morales Spider-Man addition but it’s supposedly pretty short.
I did download the Division 2 on the PS5 last night. I haven’t played it in a couple of months and they’ve added some new stuff. I don’t think there’s a PS5 version though so other than load times I don’t expect any difference.

Just really weird all around. I’ve had every major system since the Super Nintendo. I’ve never seen new consoles launch with so little new content. Not counting “upgraded” versions of PS4 games, there’s only what, 2-3 actual PS5 games, and zero for Xbox? I don’t know if Covid played a part in that, or if the backwards compatibility just made the developers lazy.

I'm sure if you ask them Covid will get the blame, but I think you're closer to the truth on the lazy bit. Look at the AAA titles that have flopped hard in the last few years from established developers and studios. Anthem, Mass Effect, Fallout 76, just off the top of my head. Then look at how established games like D2 are being handled. Something is definitely off.

That’s another thing that’s made them lazy. They have the ability to patch games after the fact now, so they just release them unfinished and use the customers as bug testers. Even as successful as Destiny is now, it wasn’t so great at launch. Most of the multiplayer games are pretty rough at release. A few of them turn it around, but plenty don’t.
I will say that if there’s an exploit that benefits players, they’ll patch that shit in a heartbeat.

The ability to patch has them rushing things out before they are ready. That's not to say that old games didn't have bugs, but nothing like now. So many games have unplayable launches that it's just the norm. I used to preorder, but Anthem was the last one for that. Just not worth the risk. I'll wait at least a month to see how any game actually handles before I put any dollars toward it.

I preordered Snowrunner and only got a single truck that was still available to the general public. So all it gave me was an upper class rig that helped in the early missions. The game itself has been very stable, but not getting a unique item makes pre-ordering too high risk these days.

I had no intention of getting any of the next gen consoles any time soon but as luck would have it my son pre-ordered the xbox and Amazon dropped off two of them by accident. Guess who got the extra one.:)

Which makes you think, if they could have patched E.T., what would they have done...if anything? What about Raiders of the Lost Ark? To Howard Scott Warshaw, I bet they made sense but to the majority of the public, not so much...

Probably not much, to be honest. ET was the first of it’s kind in video game history as far as I know. The trend of producing horrible games that rely solely on a popular character license to sell copies never went away. In the last 40 years, 99% of games made from movies, comics, etc have been complete trash. There are a few exceptions, but it’s pretty consistent.
I actually had the ET Atari game, and it was every bit as bad as people say it was. I got The Avengers game last year, and it is equally enjoyable to ET.

I hate The Avengers game didn't live up to the hype. I guess stick with Nintendo Switch's Ultimate Alliance 3?

I went and put GTA V on my PS5; Third generation of console I've had that game on now, and while I really hate how much they've been milking the Online cow without really releasing a new GTA, I'm actually finding myself appreciating how polished this game is. I got sucked in by watching this series on YouTube showing how GTA V is better than Cyberpunk 2077, and when it comes to physics, and graphics, and fun factor - I think they've got a point. I got burned out on Warzone with how unbalanced the guns have been over the past month, and I really don't think I've had a bad time playing GTA.

I feel like I should try GTA on PlayStation only because there's one mission that's literally Impossible on PC. The one where Michael does yoga with his wife was clearly designed with a console controller in mind (or at least a joystick) and you just can't do it with a mouse.

Can't you just use a controller on the PC for it?

Those games are pretty decent. Spider-Man for PS4 is pretty awesome also. My favorite licensed game of all time was Ducktales on NES.

Anyone still out there playing Battlefield 3/4, or even Bad Company 2? I'm still stuck playing that game to this day and somehow it's still a lot of fun.
