I’m just saying it’s not the customers fault that the tire that the tire store is offering is out of round. The only way to find out if it is out of round, is to pay them extra? Just seems wrong. I understand it’s not the employees fault it’s the tire manufactures fault. They should be checking this during quality control. The tire store should be able to back charge them for having to figure this out for their customer.

Or am I just being too difficult? LOL

Yep, thats the best answer. I probably couldn't have put it better.

We are in the process of replacing every balancer with new road force balancers.
It will indicate if a tire is too far out of round. It will also help us with whats called a "Ride Match" balance. A ride match starts by road force balancing the tire/ wheels assembly. The machine will then tell you to turn the tire on the wheel to achieve the lowest runout (as close to perfectly round as possible).
Road force balancing is included with our install fees because all of our balancers will eventually have the road force equipment.
Ride matching balancing is extra due to the extra labor.

I have the exact same issue. Icon Rebounds with BFG AT KO2's, 285/75r17. I had them balanced twice, then had road force balance. They recommended I have a Road Force balance, so I had one done. Didn't help, they said one tire was pretty bad. So I replaced it. Still the same vibration. I'm trading the truck for a 2020 Pro when they hit the lot, but I'm having them put the tires on it so I can test drive it first.

If there still a way to get tires trued? I remember my father having this done to get tires back round. They had a slicer that would cut the face while the tire and wheel were spinning

My Ko2's were finally smooth on the 4th Discount tire shop in Las Vegas Nevada. I'm guessing the first 3 machines were out of whack.

So it’s RPM related not speed related.

Not necessarily because it's two different RPM ranges

Interesting thread. Mine has some but it seems to be more related to the type of road surface. I really think it's the cheapie ATs on mine. I'm going to drop buy the local guy up the street and talk to him. He's been in the tire business since he was a kid and is very hands on.

Is there another America’s Tire near you? I believe the balancing is lifetime. Just not sure it’s between stores.

I’d first try swapping one front with one rear. Drive it and see if it gets better or worse. See if there’s more or less vibration in the wheel. Then do the other side. This should give you a lot of info.

I too already had 3 trips to discount tire to rebalance my grapplers and its still vibrating.Guess i have to change shop as there is 16 year olds doing work without even cleaning the wheel and slapping balancing weights :angrygirl: which end up on my garage floor couple days later

Both of y'all come out to my store here in Austin. I can make them ride perfect :D
Seriously though, ask them to do a road force and ride match balance. Also have to make sure they are doing a dynamic balance instead of a static balance.

My truck runs straight and true up to the governor. I've got vision wheels (with ET lugs) and 275/65/20 LTE BFG K02's. Everything about it screams "that's gonna be a balancing nightmare on a Tundra."

I also torque mine to 120 instead of the 97ft lbs. that is spec'd for tundras with OE alloy wheels. I do this because when my truck rolled off the assembly line, according to the vin tag, it came with 18" steel wheels that were torqued to 150 ft lbs. I believe the studs could have stretched some because of that. Then you put an alloy wheel on spec'd at 100. They might actually be a little loose even though they are torqued to spec.

My manager always says "theres no way your truck doesn't vibrate." Well it doesn't.
Tundras are very sensitive to balancing issues.
The "16 year old kids" are still considered professionals. If they make a mistake it's because they are humans too.
