They do blow. I have two friends that popped motors. That why I decided on headers over SC, I need bullet proof reliability because I am frequently in the middle of nowhere.

If they are tuned properly and you dont get on it all the time they will last. But who installs SC and then stays off the gas???

While I will agree that this is a stout and reliable platform, as any racer/performance guy knows everything has its limits and the weak links start to become evident the harder a design is stressed.

The stock connecting rods are not stout. I don't see it surviving long.

That is why I have steered away from a SC on mine. Too much $$ invested for someone trying to retire

Not at 14psi of boost. Lots of guys have already found that simply adding a smaller pulley for 9psi and having a questionable tune equals a broken motor. I used the term stout refering to the stock motor 380hp being able to reliably be pushed to 5-550hp with a S/C and a decent tune. Anyone looking to reliably make 600+ crank hp needs to consider building up the bottom end of this engine. A well designed turbo system with a tune that is on point may shift the breaking point upwards slightly simply due to the way the power comes on without the lower rpm torque. But we are talking trucks here, not race cars...and in my view a truck lives and dies by its ability to perform work. Work to me requiring low/mid range torque :)

Not sure why I am even playing devils advocate here as I am not a max effort guy. Even my Shelby build stopped around 600 wheel hp while many others pushed on to 700+. The only time's I have ever mashed the throttle to the floor of my truck have been data logging for OVTune. I installed the S/C for the additional low/mid rpm power and baby the hell out of my truck even while towing heavy. There are some broken SC engines out there for sure...There are also many with 100,000+ SC miles on them going strong today.

Thanks for the response @OVTune . I have a Magnuson with Unichip.

What should I feel at ~30% throttle at 1500 rpm?

I think this is more of a problem on the Harrop.
Does it feel kind of choppy ? like the engine has a "miss" feeling?

Not at all. That’s what I’m saying. It’s been running great and shifting smooth since new for 24k miles. I rarely get even close to wot, but even then it’s smooth. I just want to make sure that the air/fuel is correct.

I think that the situation at present is that unless you're having issues, there won't be any updates until all the transmission goodies can be integrated into all the many, many ECUs along with all the data collected and integrated from all the other otherwise stock (no headers and the like) N/A trucks. Then you can likely discuss with OV about minor changes like if you were to have larger tires installed. I could be a bit off on the details though.

    No ETA.

Alrighty guys. Map / def development for all Tundra ECUs are done and ready with vF Tuner.
Patching of ECUs for TCU features are done for most.
So we will be releasing both at the same time.
What is vF Tuner? it is a program that allows you access to the tunes, tables, and lets you tune your own truck (if you want to).

Also, map switching seems to be causing a lot of confusion for folks. I think we may not be providing this as a standard feature.

I suspect that once we develop our own vernacular or shorthand manner of explanation, it'll be better understood.

Should I data log and send in now or wait a little longer?

Im having a minor issue with holding revs in 2nd gear at a certain light throttle position

Ya, I think this could even be educational and contribute to our education of how complex modern internal combustion engine management has become.

    Thanks, Mat!

I think it's only confusing because of the verbage in your previous explanation.

When you are in s mode and want to lock your torque converter, if you press the tow haul button to do so, you won't switch maps right?

In other words, the only time your map will switch would be while you are in D. Right?

I hope you don't dump that feature. I'm really looking forward to it, but not if it interferes with my 93 tune and locking the TC.

Mat, once all the updates are completed will this be a mass email to everyone, or is this something that needs to be requested?

I asked for S-Mode in the past for my 2018, and you said that it wasn't ready. I wasn't sure if there was going to be an app like the Tacoma where we can select what we want, download and install.

Sorry if they're stupid questions. Thanks.

So this is the exact opposite of how I believe it would work. Your quote says that if I am in s mode and want to lock my tc, it will also switch to a different octane map. That would be no bueno and hard for me to believe Mat would design it that way.

Maybe that's how it will be. If so, I'll have to pass on map switching and just get a second 87 tune sent to me.
