Hey, new to the forum (coming from Jeep-land) awaiting my new 2022 Tundra SR5. It has been showing on my dealer's website with the temp VIN and I have been able to plug the VIN into Toyota's Vehicle info lookup website to see all the info on the truck (options, etc.) Now today when I plug in the Temp VIN it says "Please enter a valid VIN". Thinking the system might be down, I tried some others in the dealer's "in transient" list and those VINs gave all the details (except mine and one other). I was very optimistically hoping that meant the temp VIN was discontinued because I was getting an actual VIN. I called my dealer and he said no. He also said he didn't have a build date, but that it was 20 days out last Thursday. (??)
Just looking for information. I had a totally different experience with my 2018 Rubicon purchase. Ordered exactly what I wanted, got regular updates from the factory. I've had to readjust my expectations with this Toyota process. If anyone has any insight, then thanks. I'm pretty clueless here. (I also can't figure out why some peoples sheet on here lists the weatherproof mats as $169 and mine show over $300.)

    Thanks for the link above!
I’m guessing date of first use is supposed to be when they finish building the truck?

The Toyota spokesman I talked to said if the temp VIN was active then went inactive, it meant the VIN was "flipping" to an actual VIN. Sure enough, this am I have an actual VIN!

(He also said that the date of first use is not reliable as a finish or delivery date.) There is a 'build date' that doesn't show on that paperwork but is accessible by your dealer that is (barring any problems) the best guess on date of assembly.

if you are in SET or GST the price is alot higher than toyota USA pricing for the mats. one region is charging 300 for the mats and the other is charging like 199 for the same mats.

How can you tell VIN inactive or not and getting the real VIN#?

a temporary VIN (used until in actual assembly, from what I gather) has a letter in the last 5 digits. You can plug it into the website above and see the spec sheet for that vehicle. If you have a correct temp VIN and it no longer shows as "valid" in that website, then likely the vehicle is "flipping over" to the permanent vehicle VIN (with only numbers in the last 5 digits.)

I’ve honestly never preordered a vehicle and unsure if it’s something I’ll ever do. I’ve always been the type that likes to see and test drive before a major purchase.

The next step in building excitement with the anticipation of your new vehicle build will be a live video monitor with a speaker system where you can talk to the assembly leaders while your vehicle is being built :)

I contacted the dealer I bought my Tundra from for the breakdown of my truck. He emailed me the "Factory" decoding of my VIN. Very small Print though (I'm Old with poor vision). I tried getting one from vindecodez and even with my vision I can tell it doesn't show the options my truck has according to the one the dealer sent. Am I missing something here?
