Installed the shields today. 3/16 bare steel and painted gray with VHT.
Farthest plate is the TRD Pro skid plate.

    Thanks Tyler.

So, I put in for a quote for metal that will damn near catch me up on orders at least on the plasma cut end. I am dumping about 70-80 plates to powder coat this week, so if you have been waiting for powder coat, chances are good as long as the powder coater gets them done in the week he says he will, you will be getting it soon

also, the plasma cut order has 8 front skid plates in it

To protect all 4 CATs you will need both plates. I initially planned to just get the front one but that doesn't seem to make much sense. If your back two CATs get cut out your truck is out of commission.

It's quite hard to get the cuts on the pipes that are behind the crossmember, bit with a blade long enough(12") they might be able to although the longer blades are shitty to cut out stainless steel.

I wonder why not just extend the front plate past the rest of the cats instead of having to install 2 plates. I already have bought both plates from Valhalla, and currently just waiting on getting the truck back from the dealer, which has been sitting st the dealer for 2 months already for stolen cats. Funny thing I was actively seeking out a plate 2 weeks prior to getting stolen. Only if another person wasn't so busy... I gave the money to Tyler instead.

I considered this route, but it came down to size and weight, for some plates it would mean palletizing them, then the shipping costs go way up

Tyler... just a thing that popped into my mind since he mentioned it.....a single plate wouldn't cover all 4 bc of the transfer case skid plate....or am I just thinking out loud lol.

You mean having the plate clear the transfer case?

I could get around that. In the grand scheme of things, what is the gain of having one big plate over 2 smaller ones?

Whenever I get around to designing version 3 the transfer case skid plate will be the one getting the most changes

Do you use a scanner when designing? One like a Peel2 would work awesome, and make quick work of designing plates like these. Been wanting one of those forever.

Just ordered a full set: Engine/front skid, Transmission/front cat plate, and Transfer case/rear cat plate. All 1/8" powder coated steel. Pretty rural where I live but the cities nearby are being hit hard. Hope to get it installed before I have to leave it parked in the city again.

A small price to pay for peace of mind and some great functional skids. They are less than the price of 1 cat...

How long is the wait time for the Aluminum front and back plate? Or the steel plates? Not much of a DIYer so how hard is it to install by myself? Definitely thinking of picking them up since a few Prius got hit in my area.

For those questioning whether to get 2 plates vs just the front, you will need 2 plates if you want to really deter thieves from stealing the rear cats.

Just got off the phone with my mechanic who inquired with Toyota on ordering OEM cats. He was told it’s a 3 to 4 month wait and a price tag of $9400 for both sides. Sheesh!

Mine is sitting at the dealer for the 2 sides and I got a $2500 estimate for aftermarket and $4500 for OEM. Either your mechanic is trying to screw you or the dealer. Online they go for around $1200 each side. Considering it takes about 30 mins installation for both sides with a lift, someone's making it out like a bandit.

I have my driver's side cats replaced at Toyota with OEM parts - survey says....$4000. Fortunately insurance covered most of it.

I suggest that if you haven't already, please check into reducing your comprehensive coverage to as low a deductible as possible to stop the bleeding from your bank acct if you get hit. It usually is about $12 a month for $100 deductible and I have Nationwide insurance on a 2021 Tundra.
