I never posted pics after installing my plates. They've been great! I live in Tucson now and glad to be out of Cali.

Would one of those helmets with the shade 5 periphery windows on each side of the auto darkening main window help to spot fires like this?

At work they mandate a second person as fire watch who isn't allowed to do any other task but look for fire. Now it makes more sense. I wonder if fire is even very visible at shade 10 or 11

Glad it wasn't worse... Uncontrolled fire is no joke

I think I was at shade 9. I did not see it at all in the hood. I did feel an abnormal amount of heat. It is normal to start usually my clothes on fire, but this was another level.

This however did make my wife decide I need a shop

Wow! I'm glad you didn't get hurt - that could have been bad. But now you just "have" to follow your wife's suggestion, right?

Burned vs new shell. I am still amazed the actual expensive part was undamaged except alittle melting on a sticker. I have ordered the parts to fix my spool gun, looking forward to moving on from that mistake

I am shipping out alot before the weekend, look out for tracking numbers especially those waiting on full sets

It took a little longer than advertised but I am COMPLETELY happy with my shields. Highly recommended. Now to get some security bolts…

For those of you who spray bed liner, did you just use the rustoleum brand and spray both sides of the plate? TIA

Quick question, if I want to service transmission and transfer case, do I just take the middle plate out?

Today I replaced the trigger and removed enough melted plastic from the trigger on my spool gun and it is back up and running! I am 100% back up and running now.

I used 2 coats of Herculiner spray on the visible side of my aluminum plates. I sprayed two coats of primer on the non-visible side.

Probably a few dumb question but here goes. I am looking at the front skid plate version and it says it works with other skid plates, however I don't need to have another skid plate installed, correct?

Also I will be on the beach and around salt air, I'm assuming I should just get delivered bare and put a couple layers of protection on it?

Also any weights on the aluminum 3/8" skid plate and back? Thanks.

Are you referring to the front skid or the front cat security plate? If you are buying the skid plate then you would be replacing the current skid plate on your truck. If you are buying the front cat security plate that would either mate with a TRD Pro skid plate or other aftermarket skid plate, otherwise it wouldn't touch the standard steel skid plate that comes on the TRD Sport as that doesn't go back far enough.
Also I will be on the beach and around salt air, I'm assuming I should just get delivered bare and put a couple layers of protection on it?
Powder coating will provide good protection. I think most people buy it bare to get it faster. But spraying it yourself should be fine as long as you prep the surfaces.
Also any weights on the aluminum 3/8" skid plate and back? Thanks.
Tyler doesn't offer 3/8" aluminum option, just 3/16" and 1/4". I'm sure Tyler will be able to provide weights on both options though, I'd just sen him a message and he'll respond.

When installing the front shield with the TRD front skid plate I used Tylers pro nut plate. Question: Do I still use the square angled washers that sit on top of the frame?? And I guess they would go under the new nut plate???

    Alot of them
The square spacers go between the plate and the frame right under the transfer case. You also have to remove the small factory skid from the transfer case prior to putting the plate on.

What's the rough lead time for aluminum plates?

I ordered mine last month on #R064320005, so it's still probably a couple months out - mostly just curious.

Thanks for making such an excellent product - I'm super excited to get them!

Are these still a thing? Mine didn't come with them. I was wondering if I should procure some thick washers to drop them slightly. The plates bend a tad in that area as is

The square spacers I was talking about were originally on the two bolts at the rear of the TRD skid plate on the top side of the frame. I didn’t use them for the install of the cat plates but thanks to Tundra 234 I see where they go now. Where the front and rear cat plate meet there is a bend upward. The square spacers are actually angled, thicker on one side than the other. I will try them a few different ways ( thick side forward, back and sideways) to see what works best.
