Anyone know of a good shop in the SLC area that will install my parts? I have a Toytec 2.5 Ultimate Kit and I don't really have the time or space to install myself..

If they're open on Saturday and can get me in tomorrow that's even better.

Low range off-road is awesome but it might be a little ways away from Tooele. My buddy has a shop that specializes in Toyota installs (I work there part time). But they are moving locations.

The problem is once you get into the Grand Staircase area.

You more or less HAVE to go over Halls crossing to get to any usable trails. from there you can get through to Mt. Pinnell (South creek/willow springs) and from there to Canyonlands (Adobe Swale, Poison spring canyon through a super sketchy section, to hans flat station, hans flat road to 1010, 1010 all the way to Green river since it's the only place you can cross the Green River) - then straight through to Moab.

Unfortunately... The Canyons and rivers make it a nightmare unless you are really really really good with maps. I teach wilderness survival down there all of the time and I have to say, if you are attempting to do something like that I would recommend frequent check ins with wildlife services. It can be done. But it is extremely easy to get lost.

Not necessarily 100% dirt - that may not be practical. But as close to 100% as we can get in our allowed time.

This sounds like exactly our kind of adventure! I've done orienteering and stuff like that enough so if there's a line on a map, I feel fairly confident I can follow it (I do appreciate words of caution and wisdom though, so thank you!). I used to do search and rescue ops with the Civil Air Patrol and I'm an operator for this location based game called Ingress where we do scheduled check ins and stuff via BGAN satelite if we have agents in sketchy locations. With offline GPS apps like Gaia and Avenza handy, it's almost too easy these days - but you can't really count on electronics (with or without signal) the way you can a compass and paper. ;)

How deep on average would you say the water crossings typically are in July? - I'd always check depth before crossing, but it would be silly to plan a 3 foot swift-water crossing solo. 3 foot still-water I'm cool with.

I'm going to lookup those locations and trails you mention. See if I can piece together a quick mapped route. Thanks!

I'll send you more details when I can. It's a hell of a trek. Some really sketchy stuff I could barely do in a RAZR. But I'll paint it up for you to show you the most direct and easy route. :hattip:

Quick question - what does "really sketchy stuff I could barely do in a RAZR." actually mean?

Like boulders too big, or trail too narrow, or couldn't bring enough supplies?

Like traction issues mostly. Giant slabs of slick rock. Loose gravel at the bottom of it not giving you any opportunity at momentum. But I'm trying to draw it out so it's more trail stuff. Takes an extra hour or two but definitely safer.

well, it looks like Halls Crossing is out. Need a new plan to get from Page to Moab, or Monument Valley to Moab, or stay north of the lake to Moab.

Hey Joe or anyone else familiar with the area between Bullfrog and Green River...

I'm trying to get from Bullfrog to Poison Springs via dirt, and this is the route I made up completely blindly.

Can someone take a peek and make sure I'm not putting us in some totally ridiculous scenario? I know the Crossing at Poison Springs can be tricky, and we'll assess it before we cross, but didn't have any good instructions from anyone when I made up the path to get there from Bullfrog. I have a good route from Poison Springs to Green River thanks to Flash.

Bullfrog (gas) to Poison Springs 90 miles https://goo.gl/maps/PzpHFcGKeXE2

If you have additional ideas, especially a good dirt route from Green River to Moab, take a look at our thread in the trip reports. https://www.tundras.com/threads/phoenix-to-denver-and-back-11-days-of-dirt-roads.13892/

    Thanks guys!

Judging by your profile, you must own Seven Oaks. I live in Vernal. Been here off and on for the last 4 years or so, but originally from Illinois. I know another guy here in town that used to make custom jewelry down in St. George.

Haha I was gonna say. I just got my compressor and my tools in the new garage finally and would help if not. :D

You think you'd be down for a little salt lake meet and trail run? I think hitting a fall trail out by 5 mile would be dope!

I'm down... I pick up and drop off my daughter there often, but have only gone exploring trails out there once. I know there is some stuff out there that I'm definitely not ready for haha.. as long as it doesn't get more technical than "moderate" I am down. When were you thinking?

Maybe sometime next weekend. I've got a few people who've been talking and we're all just trail runners. No big rigs except for maybe one or two who just want to hang and meet new people anyway. Haha

I was thinking there or maybe doing the Alpine loop if it's not mudded out.

The Mrs. recently had a job offer through her company to possibly move us out there. I too found a potential job in Park City. What are some good towns/suburbs to live in SLC? How is the drive from the south east end of SLC near the 80 to Park City? Is it super hilly, slow, even slower in the winter? We would ideally want to live in the suburbs of SLC with the growing fam but clearly have very little to no clue for housing, schools etc. Any info is appreciated! We are in Los Angeles for reference.

The drive up parleys Canyon on 80 is a 3,000 foot climb. It’s really not a big deal but like all roads can be ugly when the weather is bad. Most of the time they’re great about plowing. Just leave early on snowy days and watch out for Utah drivers.

Check out the Millcreek area and Sugar house. Both are good family friendly areas with decent real estate and good schools. Plus backed up to some canyons for nice retreats during the summer spring and fall months. If you're in Millcreek you are also near the mouth of Parleys so it would reduce your drive time to park city probably 20 minutes from most places in the Millcreek area.

He's from LA though. So he might be okay with our crazy drivers. Haha but you're dead on. Parleys isn't terrible unless there is weather issues. Then it can be a little insane at times for sure.

I haven’t listed them anywhere yet. Just took them off Wednesday and kinda flip flopping on selling or hanging on to them. Figured this was a good place to start gauging interest.

For sure man, I'm pretty tapped right now. So by all means don't hold back on my accord. But If they are still hanging around in a month or so I might be interested in taking them off your hands. I sold my ProComps to get NV's and it never happened so I'm back on steelies. :puke:

It's definitely the most snow we've had this year. Looks like about 6-8" on the ground in Tooele this morning. I have today off but my wife has to commute this morning - I have full confidence in her driving skills but the other idiots out there worry me..

I agree, stay safe out there this morning everyone. Utah drivers seem to forget every year how to drive in the snow..

About the same here in SLC. Maybe closer to 8". haha It's pretty heavy. Glad to see snow finally. Better late than never!
This is me as well. The girl had to drive her mother to work today (owns a Cheby Camaro). Apparently it was all sorts of cut offs every which way. I've got the day off though. So I just enjoyed the warm house, naps, and some TV. haha
