I completely concur. I've been a member for a few years and they have upped their coverage amounts twice. I also thoroughly enjoy their high quality monthly magazines and I've also utilized the training from USCCA instructors.

The resources and training they provide is the biggest thing that sets them apart in my opinion. I really like their training, if you think about it, it saves money because you dont necessarily have to take an in person training to learn the same thing. You can practice it yourself.

Yeah it's clear they're setting themselves up to not only be insurance but an educational source as well. Brilliant.

They're also not out there hustling for members at LTC classes...that in itself is a huge plus to go with them.

Funny you say that, they actually had a rep at my CCW class. I put her on the spot and asked her why we should pay more to go with them when there was other companies. I already had USCCA at that point but I wanted to make her earn her check that day.

I've had a Texas CDL, now an LTC, since 1995.
I've thought about these programs, even read about them, but never committed.
Even though my wife works for one of the most prestigious law firms in downtown Dallas, I really need to consider one of these programs.

Thanks for taking the time to break it down like this.
    I appreciate it..

It is worth it, consider your past 25 years a freebie, you saved thousands, but with crime nowadays, I feel like its a smart time to commit. Not trying to tell you what to do but it would be a good way to justify it to yourself, as I do when it comes down to drop a few hundred bucks every year lol. This year will definitely hurt more for me.

I had a USCCA rep at my CCW class. Wasn't sure at the time, but eventually got it.

With regard to the comments about the training, I believe this would also help in your defense should you have to use your weapon and get sued. You can use your training to show that you acted reasonably. Obviously it depends on the specific circumstance, but I would argue that even if you engage in what some may call a mistake (tactical or otherwise), the fact that you continued to seek out and obtain "continuing education" to ensure you acted appropriately in a shooting situation should help your defense by showing you are a responsible and reasonable gun owner. You didn't just apply, get your license and carry without any training or due diligence.

Again, not a legal opinion, but that's another reason for choosing USCCA. And if you don't choose USCCA, there's other places that offer training. I would say at least a couple times a year for class room type stuff and hit the range as often as you, your spouse and your wallet will let you!

I carry and am a member for two reasons. #1 is the prime reason.

1: the coverage will exceed the cost in the event I need it.
2: I'd rather be an existing member with an account in good standing in the event a group of people decide that it should be required and make a law saying so. I'm SOL if they say I need it but won't allow the companies who provide it to do so in my state.

When I had to renew my permit to carry in MN the instructor said the retaining fee for a lawyer was about $45.000 and then the hourly rate between $1000 and $2000 per hour for a firearms related charge. This was in Oct 21. I have been a member of the USCAA for over 5 years and it is inexpensive insurance.

I have a USCCA rep come to all of my courses. This is part of their process when you teach a USCCA approved course…their certification process to teach is far more extensive and thorough than other certification programs

I'm a member and have been for some time. What interested me was the fact that they cover the use of 'any weapon' not just a firearm in a defensive encounter. Disclaimer: I do not know what other plans currently cover and haven't looked because I have been happy with my plan. My FFL is a representative for Law Shield. He has never pushed to switch, but he has always recommended to get a policy that best suits you. I totally agree.

In uniform (back in the day) I used to have an E&O type of insurance and it came into play at least once for me. I am retired now, but for those who work and/or have children (family) you may want to consider a contingency plan. Especially now with CVD, case are being pushed and pushed, which can push billing hours.

The reason recently stated "Just in case" pretty much sums it up for me.

    Great topic......Good luck!

Well I do hope she did a more informative sales push than the guy from Law Shield who basically tried to scare the room into buying his stuff before they all go to jail for defending themselves and property lol

It seems like their ultimate plan is more expensive than USCCA, which is the plan that matches the dollar amount.

She was pretty informative but also smart, she was touting a free ammo box with membership lol. Little did people know you could get a pelican case and the ammo box if you did it online.

I did the lump sum with USCCA as well, but dont remember if I had to or not. I may go monthly this year if it is the same price either way.

I went monthly. Put it on a CC that rarely gets used and set it to auto pay. Kill two birds with one stone, membership and CC acct remains active and they keep upping my limit.

I think there's a price break if you pay in a lump sum.
