USB stopped working after the radio lost power. Checked all the fuses and they’re all good. Is the USB on a separate fuse? Can’t find it. Thanks.

Mine is a 2018. The USB wire runs from the stereo to the socket on the dash, no fuse. Very strange that it would just stop working.

Make sure your cord isn’t bad. Try one that you know is working and undamaged.

I did that. I checked all fuses associated with the stereo also. I’ve checked all fuses on the interior cab and the ones under the engine and they’re all good. Stereo doesn’t power on or play, but it still connects to my Bluetooth and the USB port doesn’t work, but the 12V outlets work. I’m totally baffled at why it stopped working.

Did you check the driver side kick panel fuses?

Yes I checked every fuse inside the cab and under the hood. No blown fuses. Only thing not working is USB, radio is totally dead and rear view backup camera only flickers when I start the truck. Radio fuse is good and the one for the camera is also good. Starting to think the head unit does somehow?

I tried a cable that I know works, and it’s the same. USB doesn’t respond to anything and neither does the radio screen. It’s dead, but my phone still connects through Bluetooth. Like I mentioned, I’m baffled.

We're taking the stock Entune HU, right?

So the HU will run music off the phone thru Bluetooth?
You can make and hear phone calls thru Bluetooth?

Did you recently update the HU?

I seem to remember someone haunt a similar problem. All fuses looked good on visual inspection but when they tested the continuity one was defective. Might not be so obvious, but would require a lot of work with a multimeter

OP has 2 threads going. Mods should kill one.

Steevel is omitting some info. He just changed his heads and fogs to LED.

After doing so, he tried to drive the truck and it immediately acted weird; at first the RV camera stayed on when he shifted to P. Then his radio stopped working.

Steevel, the USB on your dash is powered by the radio. The wire plugs into the back of your FACTORY head unit right here:
    38D80F9E-0331-4007-BBDA-644D353F8A55.jpg

If your HU isn’t working, neither will that USB charging/signal port.

I have to guess that something you did when you changed your bulbs has effected the electronics, but for the life of me, I can’t imagine what.

Here is OPs first post on the other thread, where he gave more info:

So I replaced my headlights and fog lights to LED’s and they worked fine for a day or so. Then the next day I started the truck and put it in reverse and the rear camera came on as usual, but when I shifted to drive the camera was still on. I stopped and put the truck in park and the camera was still on. I shut the truck off and restarted it, and the camera flickered and then the radio completely died. Nothing at all. I took the truck homer and tested all the fuses. Nothing is bad, but the only thing that doesn’t work anymore is the radio and the USB. But!!! the radio fuses are still good and didn’t pop. But the USB has no power. Is there a separate fuse for the USB that isn’t in the fuse boxes?Anyone have this problem!? Thanks!

Hey folks, thanks for replying. I did forget to mention about me changing out my headlights and fog lights to LED. I’m just frustrated so I guess it slipped my mind. After changing the light though, the system was working fine for 36 hours at least. The HU stopped working during the day, so the lights weren’t on, and the camera just stayed on when I put the truck into drive. I shut the truck off and that’s when it just flickered the reverse camera and killed the head unit entirely. But…when the truck is started the Bluetooth is still connecting to my phone. There’s no sound and I can’t receive or hear calls or texts, but it’s connected. There’s no lights in the HU except for a brief flicker when I start the truck. It’s looking like I should take the LED lights out and start there.

I would try removing the led bulbs and start from the beginning. I dont see how changing the bulb would affect the radio. Very strange.

I’ve heard there’s a very small chance that LED lights can make your car or truck start throwing codes, but it seems the headlight and fog light mods are the only thing I can trace it to.

To be clear, the truck didn’t start doing anything immediately. I drove around for nearly 2 days before the HU went down. Also it was during the day, so no lights were involved. But I’m still thinking it’s the lights and I’m going to go back and take them out I guess.

    It’s really odd.

Are there any other electronic mods on the truck? Are you first owner?

No other mods that I’m aware of. Also I disconnected the fuses for the headlights and that didn’t change anything.

Personally I would pull the head unit ( really pretty simple ) and use a multimeter and check to see if you have 12v con and 12v acc at the radio. Unplug the power harness ( all the others can stay plugged in ) and meter. If you have both powers then your radio is a paperweight. If you have none or only one of the two, then you have a blown fuse. Also, make sure other things work in the truck as well ( either plug in or test with mm ) like your cig lighters. Many times a secondary fuse for those will also provide power to the radio.

Could it be as simple as loose connection / plug not entirely seated? Did you remove the head unit at any point where the plugs could become unseated? And don’t you need to have the relay harness for the led headlight swap?

I never removed the head at all. I bought the truck from a rental company with low miles. They did remove the GPS, but that’s not anything to do with a harness behind the head unit I don’t think? Also, I checked all fuses and they’re all seemingly working. All but the USB which is connected to the head. Also I mentioned that when I start the truck the rear camera flickers on for a second and then is gone. The radio never comes on, but for some reason the Bluetooth will still connect to my iPhone. It’s really strange.

Did you use an ihacker harness for your LED headlights?

I'm starting to wonder if it's just a coincidence your HU petered out when it did.
It may have nothing to do with the lights.

I would pull the radio as @Do58 suggested and see if it is getting power.
Should be getting power from 2 pins, bat and accessory (when the key is on).

Just a quick search before I go to bed..
These should be the right wire colors for power to your HU connector.
Although I could be wrong, at least it is a place to start..
Not sure if your audio system JBL or non-JBL?
That may or may not make a difference.
I know you checked all your fuses but I would double-check both of these..

    radio_power_bfb0f3e35127516c351f9092eb0d425b9a87af98.jpg

If indeed the HU is bricked, I'd replace it with an after-market HU and an idatalink maestro harness.

Several youtubes on pulling the HU.
You DO NOT need to pull the console like some of them say to do.
Just stick your thumbs in the 12-volt outlets in that bottom piece your USB plug is in.
That panel pulls right out, then the climate control pulls out (disconnect that plug), then you'll see the 4 bolts that hold the HU in (don't drop them in the dash), then pull out the HU.

I don’t have the JBL system and I also didn’t put in an ihacker harness. The lighting company offered to send me a decoder, which is a plug in to the lights. I think it’s the same thing? I could be wrong. Anyways I really couldn’t tell ya why the HU decided to fry, but it’s seemingly 1/2 dead. It flickers when I start the truck and that’s it. It still connects to the Bluetooth as well, but no noise or power to the head. So I can’t receive calls or text through it. I have a CD in there and it won’t even eject that. Replacement is my next option after a few more tests.

Help I performed a mod on my truck and now something doesn’t work!

Step 1. Retrace your mod, make sure everything looks correct, if it does not, correct and try again.
Step 2. If everything looks correct on your mod and problem persists, undo mod. Return to stock configuration and see if problem persists.
Step 3. This one is less likely than most people would like to believe. The “coincidental failure” of a seemingly unrelated part. It’s my last thought as coincidental failures are not that common. I have a hard time believing your radio failure is not related to your LED mod as many issues have arisen from these. Some other possibilities however could be a bad USB cord that somehow shorted the radio? Never heard of it before. Random radio failure that no one else on the forum has had? Never heard of that one either.

Well it happened!? I also unplugged all the fuses to the lights instead of removing them, because that bypasses the system, and it’s still doing the same thing. I’m starting to think the HU somehow just roached itself?

I hear people backtracking steps and restoring back to factory to see if anything changes if they install something that should be a simple upgrade. I totally agree with that EXCEPT there should be no correlation between the lights and the radio/usb. If there is a cause there will be a reaction IMMEDIATELY. That didn’t happen though as you stated all was good for a couple days. Coincidence?….maybe. Maybe not. None of us were there to see what happened or what what was done other than the op. If the lights work but the radio doesn’t a couple days later, there is no reason to restore back to factory or the way it was before. This is why I mentioned that the radio needed to be pulled to check voltage at the radio. If you have power at the radio but doesn’t work AND you have working lights, don’t lose sleep wondering and replace the radio. It would save a few steps in troubleshooting. Just my thought.
    Good luck.

Ps…. Have you verified that voltage is good all the way to the radio before you just replace it?

They “removed the GPS”? What does that even mean?

I would pull the head unit and check the connections.

I bought the truck used from a company that was a rental company. Low miles on the truck, but the removed the GPS unit from the truck before it goes to the dealer. Everything is the same but the navigation part is removed. I stated that in my last post.
