If we were all as great as our dogs think we are the world would be a better place. They really are man's best friend.

It's sad to let them go, but at the same time so awesome that we get to experience the entire life cycle for several dogs throughout our lives.

Enjoy all the time you have left with him. You won't regret it.

Anyone else getting ready for bird season? I have been doing a lot of training with my Lab and am starting to work with my Vizsla pup as well. Should be a fun season.

I started conditioning me and the lab recently. I hike her up above treeline to go fishing every weekend and then swim her in the lake. Dusky (blue) grouse season is coming!

I know it’s been way too long. Finally have some Birding Machine pictures. This truck was purpose built for upland hunting and carrying the dogs. This is my third Tundra and I have this one damn near set up the way I want it! It’s a 16 Pro with 2 plus inches in the front and 3 in the rear with 295/75 Yokahomas. Rack, Sliders and a few other mods Built by Hunter Off-road in Tempe. Pelfreybilt bumper, they did the install, support these guys they are avid upland hunters, that’s how the got in the business.

    Digodell,

I like that setup for warm climates and hunting trips close to home.

I usually have to travel several hours to get to my preferred hunting spots and I've lived in cold Northern regions all my adult life. I find that including a canopy in my setup works best for my situation. It keeps the rain, snow and opportunists out of my gear and it keeps the dogs warm enough after a long day in the field.

If I didn't have those issues I'd be all over a setup like yours. It looks really well designed and equally well executed.

I really need to make my way out to AZ for some desert quail hunting sometime.

Thanks, come on out some time. Getting some summer rains so hopefully optimistic about the populations. Means any way this year. As for the set up. Wool blankets in the kennels and a heavily padded movers type blanket sown to fit over the kennels keep them pleanty warm out here even when we dip towards the freeze and below.

Thanks. I'll let you know if I'm ever out there for birds.

My last season of hunts in Eastern Washington was on various days between 40 and -9 degrees. My Lab stays warm enough so long as he’s hunting, but at the end of a full day in the field he gets cold when he stops moving and the temp is less than 20.

I've had birds that I shot in the morning and left in the back of the truck at lunch frozen solid by dinner time.

Now that’s cold to us desert dwellers. -9 sounds like Muskox hunting, lol.

Alright boys. It's official. We know what we're doing around here.

Check out the google image search results for "ultimate upland hunting vehicle". Several pictures of our trucks from this thread show up in the results.

    It's officially Fall!

I wish I was out West, but I bought my licenses for MA and NH yesterday. Let's hope I can actually get out this year.

I got out chasing some grouse this weekend at my buddys place. Got skunked but had fun running the dogs and walking around the woods. I did get to shoot some released birds for my dogs during a little competition at my local bird dog club. I can’t wait until quail and pheasant open up.

Got out Saturday, the grouse are much higher than normal in this particular spot, no water and food at their normal elevation. Killed 2 and ate em that night. My 3 yo BLF is getting much better at this mtn upland game :)

Bought my North Dakota license a few days ago. I got just under one month. Can't wait to go chase some 100% Organic Free Range Thunder Chickens. Neither can the dog.

    Any tips on Ruffed Grouse?

I think I'm going to spend this Saturday trying to find some for the first time.

@2017 TRD PRO your avitar looks like you might know something about this and you're here in MA also. Any plans for upland opener this weekend or have you given up on in-state opportunities in favor of NH?

    Chukar?

I like that stack barrel with a straight grip. Double triggers too?

Chukar indeed. No double triggers. It’s a new to me Browning Citori. I love the straight grip, it took me a while to find one for a reasonable price. It worked great for the Quail opener this last weekend.

Pooring down rain can be miserable to hunt in, but I think the birds hold better in the rain so I like it if there's no lightning and I can keep mostly dry.

It's finally Upland Day Eve here in Massachusetts. (Kind of like Duck Day Eve if you've ever watched Duck Commander. One of my guilty pleasures even though I think waterfowl hunting is an illness rather than a pass-time. :crapstorm:

No moral opposition, just think it's too much prep before and cleanup after. Plus l sit still all day at work so I just can't handle sitting still and waiting for the birds to come to me.)

 This is pretty much exactly my opinion on water fowling.

    How did upland day go?
