    Anyone use the spray cans of rubberized under coating on their truck. Wondering if its a good idea. I have 2000k mile on my truck.

    Thoughts?

    I saw what the undercoating Toyota used in a warranty issued 2007. Black, thick. Looked like sheeeeeeet. I plan on Fluid Film or the Boeing stuff. My truck has only been through one Minnesota winter here and still looks like new underneath. Good luck. D

    Just fluid filmed mine a few weeks back, stuff stinks but works decent. Used 3 1/2 spray cans.

    The problem with the old style coatings like the rubberized you mentioned is that as they age they can harden and crack which leads to them holding water or salty water against bare metal.

    I think you need to reread your OP there mister "2000k" and fix your grammar while you're at it.

    1k = 1,000
    10k = 10,000
    100k = 100,000
    1000k = 1,000,000
    2000k = 2,000,000

    Why would anyone worry about the frame rusting out on a Toyota?

    Toyota’s up here rust the least of any automaker. That being said. I know from my education on this forum about first gen frames replaced and second gen recalled.

    Do a grease rub. Lasts forever.

    Or a quick Fluid Film spray that lasts maybe a few months before washing off on exposed areas. Keep in mind there are different levels of Fluid Film.

    I do my fluid film once a year and it is still pretty well coated when I redo it. Will be redoing mine in about a month before the snow starts.

    I bought a gun and a gallon to try this year. Got a good deal in ebay with a 20% coupon. I'll let you know how it goes then maybe next year we can get together and I'll spray your truck. This year I'm splitting a gallon with my buddy, maybe next year I'll see if I can get a few local guys for some fluid film and beers

    I've had Fluid Film in mind for my truck. Since I live in IL and they salt plenty, what Fluid Film is recommended? The only one I've seen around here are the red spray cans, and the gallon containers which are sold online. https://www.amazon.com/Fluid-Film-1...1538767446&sr=8-2-spons&ref=sr_1_2_sspa&psc=1

    Also, some reviewers have had bad luck with some cans not spraying. Is this typical if you buy spray cans?

    I've never had an issue with the cans but I usually just buy them at Napa or Grainger. The other types are more industry oriented and are available in 5 or 55 gallons

    I fluid film my truck for the beach. The only thing that sucks is the sand sticks to it but I will take that over rust.

    I use regular black krylon paint once a year.takes about 4 cans to do the entire truck.when they replaced my 2000 tundra frame, that's what I have been doing ever since.

    The rubberized undercoating will trap water and salt and make things worse.

    I used Fluid Film for a few years when it first came out. It works okay. It smells horrible, and will only last a few months before it comes off. Looks like crap in my opinion as well.

    I started using this product from Amsoil when it came out on the recommendation of a friend who manages an auto parts store. It is worlds better than Fluid Film. I just applied it tonight on my Tundra for the winter. It will still be on there this time next year, and I wash my truck at least once a week at an automatic car wash that sprays the frame.

    This stuff dries to almost a hard wax like substance. It doesn't smell anywhere as bad as the Fluid Film and you can't tell it's even on there unless you go to scratch it with your finger nail.

    https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-prod...s-and-protectants/heavy-duty-metal-protector/

    I used it on my Tacoma for a few years before I traded it in on the Tundra and the frame was in excellent shape.

    Since we're talking about rust prevention....

    If you're going through the trouble of spraying the frame of your truck you should look underneath your rocker panels and remove the rubber plugs.

    Once they're removed spray for a few seconds in each direction through each plug and you'll watch it run out the rocker panel, then reinstall the plugs.

    It seals up an area where water and salt gets trapped and goes a long way towards preventing rust.

    I sprayed the underbody with Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protector at roughly $9 a can used 4 cans doing some areas twice. We will see how it works after the trucks first Wisconsin winter.

    But I will be giving the Amsoil HDMP a shot again since it's actually cheaper, couple of members here brought that to my attention.

    Will the fluid film dirty up your driveway? Planning on knocking it out in a week or two before old man winter hits.

    Thanks for the info. That product looks great and not much $. So here's a question.. when you apply it, what about overspray? Do you tape off areas?

    You're spraying the frame. What are you worried about getting over spray on?

    You'll have some dripping here and there on the ground, but you'll have that with any kind of product like this.
