Very good idea. And I love your survival tools. I'm gonna have to look into this. Maybe I'll split a gun case with my buddy who has a tundra

You could even pre-stock the unused side and swap them out...work vs. play..thanks for posting a much needed solution

So this idea made me think you could also take it a step further and just get some egg crate/convoluted foam like you have there and use it without the case. The foam might just stay put from the friction with the carpet.

OR even another step, velcro two sheets of convoluted foam, one to the seat bottom, one to the carpet so it works like a clamshell holding things in place.

Or the Pelican case method, full of foam and only take out what you need.....

Thanks for the poor mans budget mod. Other similar cases will probly work too. I thrift and estate sale a lot. So I will keep my eyes peeled for something. Some archery cases are rectangular too. Peace. D

    Nice hack OP!

I wish I could source a cheap low profile rectangular case. I was at my local hardware store and 2 of these lids would work, I don't need the bins they come with though.
I don't mind spending extra for the ESP, but I like my Husky mats that go up and over more. This sort of rifle/lid solution works better for storage I rarely access.

Right now I tuck a few things underneath the mat and it's sandwiched by the seat.

Yes sir, archery cases may work great. I tried to use the whole case at first but even at 4 inches it was just to thick. then I realized I could remove the hinge pins and just half the case worked fine. The reason I went with the gun case was because of the length it reaches al the way across the underside of the seat, so I can store long umbrellas and such.

Yes, Toyota really screwed the owners with their boneheaded move by doing away with the sliding seats and installing a styrofoam hump that is completely worthless.

Interesting ideas, the ESP cases are nice but a bit steep when theres so many other upgrades to do and the wifey not quite with the spending

This has me thinking about framing out an edge along the seats with wood or aluminum to stash some tools.

@Grandaddy Thank you, This is awesome! In cab storage is very lacking, I was looking at the 3 cubbie deal but didn't want to cut carpet and this is a fraction of the cost and labor! Odd that I searched on my desktop PC and Amazon showed the part # you listed as "in stock" but on my mobile device it was not. I found another Plano box from a different seller and pulled the trigger, it should arrive monday.

It's not clear to me how this fits under the seat when it's not folded up. Can you still use your rear seat as a seat with this installed? I can't even fit my tiny air compressor or a flat tool kit under the seat

This pic shows the seat down and useable. Only half of the case is being used.

I tried this on my 21 CrewMax and could not get the seat to latch down. It was cheap thin single gun case. I wonder if having a floor mat that goes all the way under the seats was the difference between latching and not?

Did you ever get this to work as I'm taking delivery of a '21 CrewMax middle of next month and would likely go with the Husky mats. Hoping I can do a similar setup rather than cutting into the new truck.
Think it's a great idea for ratchet straps, tow rope, a few tools, gloves, etc.

No sir, could not find a way to get the seats to latch when it was in. Don't think I could find much thinner of a gun case either.

    Thanks.
Possibly pushed too far back or the new models have deeper insulation related to the module in the center? Once I get my hands on the truck we'll dive into a solution that doesn't involve cutting if possible.

I keep a big bath towel and a blanket in my cab, which could lay on top of tools, to prevent rattling.

Dang, this is a great idea. It's so good someone needs to make purpose built version and charge double for it. Even better, it could be molded into the floor mats.
