I have a scan gauge and I like it. I had it in my Tacoma before I sold it. I programmed it using the method above to get trans temp. I monitor trans temp, water temp, mpg and volts

    It's really dark
I have both. I like the SG better. Overall it is not as sophisticated as UG but it is so much easier to set up and use. I have had an SG in my truck since 2013 and it has never had a problem, cold or hot weather with my truck parked outside.

    SG pros
Super easy to set up. You set up the gas by filling up and thats it.
    Easy to read
    No annoyances.

    SG cons
Not sure what some values really are. For example, looking at throttle position it may say 21, but 21 what? I assume it is 21% open but it doesn't say. Any temperatures are easy, volts are easy, but some values aren't self explanatory.

    UG pros
You can watch more stuff at once
Has more items that you can view than SG
Has alarms you can set for things like oil change or gas filling

    UG cons
It takes a lot of work to properly set up. You have to teach it speed by driving a specified distance for example, without doing that the data is not accurate for a lot of things.
It has alarms for things like oil changes and gas fillings that are kind of a pain to disarm
You can watch too much stuff,l at once, to the point that it gets harder to read
The screen doesn't have the best lighting and can be hard to read jn the daytime
Biggest problem by far- it can't take the heat. In the Summer if temps go above 90, take it out of your car or the screen will stop working. Really.

My UG has had its internal thermometer read 160-175F entering the vehicle on a hot summer day many many times over many years. Never died, but maybe that's where the little bit of light bleed started. It also keeps the oil change trip meter no matter how long you disconnect the battery unlike the Toyota instrument cluster trips. I'd love to replace it with the newer model but unfortunately it's manufactured in Mordor so I never will.

SGII can be updated too, and multiple ones daisy chained with ethernet cable.
