Well I took my first baby step and diped the billet grill. Used to be chrome.
I think it looks much better! I need to go stare at it for awhile. I'm thinking about doing the badges next.
If I do that, the only chrome will be the bumpers and running boards.

Do it. The badges and bumpers will look really good dipped. Then if you like it make it permanent. If you miss the chrome the dip is easy to peel off. I have used wd40 and goo gone. Just let it soak for 10 minutes then it peels right off.

Thanks man, took a little while but was pleased with it. Love the fact that I can remove plasti dip if I ever want to change something.

Looks good. Is the glossifier as easy to remove as the normal plasti-dip? I've never used it before.

Thanks. I am planning on dipping my grill and bumpers soon. I think I'll give the glossifier a shot.

Do you have to take off the whole grill if you want to just pd the surround?

No you don't, make a template for your grill and tape it off, also cover surrounding area of truck. It will come off pretty easy, but less clean up the better. 4-6 coats should do it. Hope this helps

Hey guys, new to the forum. I have a question about applying the Plasti Dip. Is there an FAQ somewhere else? If so please point me there. If not, my question is about prepping the surface for PD:

I want to do my bumpers (they are body paint color on the Limited). The trick is my rear bumper has bubbling rust under the paint from salt water (dive gear, surf boards, wet suits, etc). I need to grind off the rust and then prime the bare metal in a couple spots but the rest of the bumper will be painted. Will this cause a problem with the. Plasti dip? What is the normal surface prep - just clean with Dawn or alcohol?

    Thanks!

Want to remove the black plasti-dip from the outer grill surround and mirror caps then color match them. Grill has about 12 coats of dip. Lol. Caps maybe 3

Great thread. So - has anyone with a 1Gen Tundra in "Salsa Red Pearl" done their bumpers? I'm trying to decide between Gunmetal Gray or Charcoal for the color...

Also, are you guys using a sprayer or just rattle cans? If rattle cans, how many does it take to do a number with like 6 coats?

How well does this stuff hold up over multiple car washes and sun exposure? I'm thinking of doing my platinum grille rather than buying a TRD Pro grille but I don't really want to be having to apply touch up on a regular basis.

Holds up well but, it's really dependant on how many coats you use. The more the better. Highly recommend a light sanding as prep

Well, I have an answer to my own question.. I just finished mine this past weekend. It took 8 cans to do the rear bumper, front bumper and grill and all 4 wheel arches. FWIW, the "Charcoal Gray" is actually more of a regular gray, and matches almost perfectly to the stock gray bumper cap and other factory plastic trim on the 1Gen.

Sorry for the crappy photo quality - I finished the job just as it was getting dark and I snapped a few pix with the phone. I'm thinking I might do the center of the grill in black just to set it off a bit more from the bumper. Also considering doing the rocker panels, but I'm thinking that if I come up to the bottom of the molding, it will be too much.

Can you spot treat the dip or if a blemish occurs do you peel completely off and start over?

WD 40 , Goo Gone, and Meguirs hot shot tire cleaner all work (I found this out the hard way). The tire cleaner will make it wet again like you sprayed it on. Then just take a pressure washer to it and it will basically just peel itself off.
