I'd lean more towards supply / demand with regards to 2022's record profits and not the Big 3's officers' insatiable cocaine/hooker consumption. Less supply jacks up price (plant shutdowns, supply shortages), more demand jacks up price (YouTube telling everyone they need a 20" infotainment screen and a red headliner in order to stay "cutting edge"). Dealer markups are part of the "mark-ups" recorded into earnings from the source you linked. So we can thank all of the rockstar wheel/hockey puck lifts that dealers added on for $20k, plus market adjustment - just because - as reason for the profit / cost dichotomy. Joey Lunchpail on the assembly line sweating out an extra 5 ounces each week is a non-factor on either side of the equation (profit vs cost). Joey Lunchpail getting a 25% raise for the same work he's been doing will affect cost only which will be passed along to the consumer. Just like always.

SOB. I'm honored to be on these forums with a bunch of Chairmans and COO's and CEO's. All of the Big 3 have raised their truck prices 2.5 times in the last 20 years while wages increased 25-35%. I literally had no idea that fellow forum members weren't working class peers and multi-millionaires. I've been in a Union for the past 25 years and every contract the company tells us we will bankrupt them yet the following quarter record profits are posted. I am a simple Union mechanic making $69/hr and at the end of this extension will be at $76. EVERY year my company makes insane profits and somehow still pays a lowly blue collar worker like myself. It's hilarious that the lowest paid employees seem to fight the hardest for the bonus-getting board members while they piss themselves laughing at you. EVERYONE of you should bow your heads to a Union worker for whatever measly wage you get as it would be half if not for them. And don't forget your vacation and your sick leave. Literally any benefit you have is because some Union worker sacrificed so your lazy ass can feed your family since you literally did nothing. Hey, your breaks over, go back to flipping those burgers and telling your wife how proud she should be that you're raising three kids on $22 G a year. The fact that you embarrassing folk won't stand up for yourselves while your leaders rape you is truly hilarious.

If they were only jacking up prices in relation to their costs, then why did their margins also explode? We're not just talking about increased sales, but actual bottom line profit.

We got raped by big corporations and they are laughing while we argue over who is to blame.

One example from the article I linked

"Conagra Brands, the maker of SlimJim and other packaged foods, reported $342 million in quarterly profit last week, up nearly 60 percent from the same period last year."

They do. Every Union in our country pays lobbyists to fight for those exact items. What do you offer to help with the fight for equal pay. Oh, I know the answer to that. Every Union spends a % of members dues on bringing to light the exact things you're talking about. If it wasn't for a Union group sometime, someplace you never even could have asked your question.

Agreed 100%. Workers ask for more pay, everyone raises a fuss how this will impact prices and hurt the consumer. Executives increase their own pay exponentially over decades while giving everyone else a pay cut, and that’s just the system working as intended.

Please make it make sense. I was of the impression that most of us here were blue collar workers, some of us even using our Tundras for that work, so it’s super disappointing to see everyone turn on their fellow workers so quickly.

I’d expect the sentiments here to be common in executive and stock trader newsletters, not so much a truck forum.

That’s again an awesome statement from a cashier. Every penny our leadership makes is public. Our books are public. When a Union official farts, it’s public. It’s always fun as the underpaid worker to quote his bosses to make themselves feel better. Or, or, oooorrrr, you could simply grow a pair and demand a fair wage.

The bottom line that almost everyone can agree on:
    1. The ceo's and companies make wayyyyyy too much money while crying poor.
    2. The workers deserve a fair, livable wage with benefits that make it able to take care of their families without going broke.

Everyone can argue about how greedy companies are, how upper administration doesn't deserve what they make and how employees should make more money. ALL can actually be true, but the end result is that the consumer pays regardless of how it is "fixed".

I love when the companies cry about how many millions of dollars they lose a day/week/month in revenue during these strikes.......yet "settle" after hundreds of millions of dollars are "lost" while they're still recording record quarterly profits and not missing a paycheck. They will recoup their costs by jacking up MSRP, reducing incentives and rebates, etc so that the end buyers are the ones that suffer the most. And I am happy to be in a position where I can afford my bills, have a little extra disposable income to not be handcuffed by the extra cost, etc as long as the workers are taken care of. All that said, I will still never buy a Ford. Ever.

    The Heads of Unions...

The CEOs, COOs, and others on the Board of Directors...

The Big Corporations... (this is always hilarious to me because we love to talk shit about big corporations and their profits and how much money the top of the food chain makes and how the rest of us deserve a piece of that pie, yet WE ALL click on every scamazon link that pops up, refer our friends and fellow forum members to our latest online purchase, and we are so quick to shop at one of the largest corporations ever built because we need it NOW or it's a bit cheaper, etc. etc.)...

    The Shareholders...

    The Investment Firms...

Folks, it's all the same snake, just different heads!!! Often times... it's the same head, just wearing a different hat that day or that meeting!!!

Lastly, to the union worker or mechanic or laborer or whoever it was that said they were making a mere $140k/year and will now be making $150kish/yr.... I truly hope that the extra money that you will be receiving this coming year will motivate you and others in similar positions within the Big 3 to take more pride in your work, and to put out a better product through your own personal attention to detail and work ethic.

PS>>> My sincere apologies for not having personally thanked every union worker for my 'above minimum wage' earnings, my vacation days, my holiday pay, my OT pay, my call-out pay, my sick leave, my medical benefits, my bereavement leave, my 1 hour lunch, my 15 minute breaks, my stand-up workstation, my company vehicle, my travel allowances, my shift differential, my training pay, my assignment pay, my anti-carpal tunnel wrist support thingy, my steel toe boots, my eye-pro, my helmet, my EPA program, my retirement, my pension, and my annual Christmas parties...

    Thank you!!!

I see Ford settled for what looks to be a nice package. So the average schmuck will make about 82K per year according to reports. I wish to hell I would have made even 80% of that when I was working as an RN in the hospital. Nice money if you can get it.

Y'all think this 25% will result in products that are not complete garbage since they are finally paying them what they are worth? It would be nice to be able to buy a Ford/Chevy/Ram without worrying about it falling apart in 5 years.

737 jet engine mechanic. Hmm....lots of training. A&P certification/license= union and big ass $$. Maybe some occasional drug tests. That pesky safely of flight thing. UAW folks working on an assembly line doing what a robot can't do yet, which doesn't even require a HS diploma, doesn't quite equal certified jet engine mechanic pay and no drug testing. Just sayin. IMHO

I couldn't have said it better myself. $15/hr to flip burgers is insanity. If you want higher pay, apply yourself, learn something to make yourself more productive and/or more marketable, and get a promotion or another job. Idiots who think they deserve more just because they've been doing the SAME THING for several years, with no improvement in their jobs, are a large part of the problem.
