Agreed! We have some too and they aren't union. It's actually kind of a PITA to cancel a teacher's contract. Usually what happens is they ride out the year and don't get it renewed. Unless the district can "persuade" them to leave through a growth plan.

I know this is further back in the thread, but scary doesn't even begin to describe it with me. I'm more petrified to where I have the mentality of "I can make it work". For me, it's more a feeling of being a failure in the eyes of my wife and of my kids, not only to myself. How come I can't make it work? What's wrong with me that I don't want to put forth more? Am I smart enough to be able to provide, not that my wife clears more than me. I know a lot of this is ridiculous, and I plan on talking with someone about it because I'm sure I have more going on than just that.

This is one of the problems w/some of these highly publicized moves... So, the workers get a 5, 10, or 20% raise; other unions or organizations see the success and want it; so they emulate the successful tactic in hopes seeing similar gains; subsequently things roll down hill, and those costs/increases are eventually absorbed at the consumer level (IE>> price increases on almost everything you do and buy goes up 20, 30, or 40% or whatever)

The consumers end up paying for these types increases; the money does not come out of the pockets of those at the top...

My point being... you get 20% more in wages, but your overall cost of living continues to rise in everything you do or buy, are you really gaining anything when you're spending 30, 40 or 50% more???

This point is completely lost on most people pushing for large, across the board wage increases, like unions do. You might not see the difference immediately, but the consumer ALWAYS pays.

I was trained when I was 12 years old working my first job (for my dad) that if I wanted to make more money, I had to get better/faster at my job - I had to make myself more productive. That is what I have gone by for my whole career. I really don't understand those who want more money for doing the same thing they've done for awhile, without improving on the job in any way. My first impression is that they are leeches. I do understand COLA raises, but with today's economy, that would quickly kill a business.

What is the solution then? Should people not fight for better wages? A lot of people in the middle are getting crushed while corporations recorded record profits in 2022. A lot of the inflation is simply greed.

Government overspending and reckless printing of money to fund it is the cause of inflation.

I think one of the solutions is to stop supporting and accepting poor work ethic and supporting those that choose to NOT work and find a way to BEAT the system and have 'the system' support them throughout their lives. This is so taxing and draining to our entire system... All of these 'programs' are supported by tax dollars; which means when programs increase or provide higher $$ amounts to recipients folks lose motivation to get out of their undesirable situation and allow the 'system' to do better for them. This is flawed thinking.

Also, folks need to understand that not every job is worth 6 figures. So, as stated above, if a person wants to earn more, their work ethic, productivity, industry of choice, position in the company, new career, etc. has to move forward or be progressive. Otherwise, why would an hourly employee have motivation to move up, work harder, learn a trade, go to school, be more productive, etc...

We have a LOT of 'entitlement' issues happening... IE>> The system owes me; it's not fair, I should make X amount per hour; I wasn't given the same opportunities that so and so was, etc...

The other down fall of driving these wages higher, is that as the wages increase here in the US many of the blue collar, labor or lesser per/hr jobs will continue to be farmed out to other countries.

Finally, as the capabilities of technology continue to increase, we'll hit a point where it will be cheaper to replace almost all of the those lower level jobs by robots and automation. When the cost of using that technology becomes cheaper than employing a human, more and more jobs will be lost. Which then means more people on govt programs and more people receiving variations of state or federal based aid (all at the cost of the middle class taxpayer).

The whole thing is a vicious, vicious cycle... No I don't have any absolute answers, but it's also pretty easy to see what isn't going to work.

I was reading an article a minute ago about the strike, the truck plant, the Corvette plant, and this one sentence stuck out like a sore thumb. Someone has lots and lots of money!!:)
The amount of money is staggering.

    This,,,,, below.

“The strike at KTP, Ford’s most profitable plant, will cost the company $150 million a week in profit, according to Wells Fargo analysts.”

Yes they are. Too bad we have *Redacted to avoid a ban for politics* running the show and not enough *Redacted to avoid a ban for politics* in *Redacted to avoid a ban for politics* to put up a fight against this inevitable outcome. For fuck's sake the god damn*Redacted to avoid a ban for politics* attended a rally to support the UAW, which has never happened in the history of the US.

Every bailout is another burden on my grandson's generation. Bad enough already. Fire the UAW. Reset, like R""""n did with the air traffic controllers. No planes crashed.
