I get paid 40 hours for working 36, not comical. Some people have jobs like that. They will negotiate high and settle on a common ground. UAW and manufacturers playing their games.

The point is the CEO's can take pay cuts. Plenty of money in these corps to go around.

I agree the whole thing is crazy. In fact the whole world is crazy following the greatest power grab in history.

I can see the 32 work week (with 40 hour pay) getting squashed out, as I am sure their main focus is on salary, followed by revised benefits/pensions.

Maybe if GM CEO Mary Barra gave up some of the $29M she's earning this year along with other overpaid execs that would help. Akio Toyoda of Toyota only gets $4.5M/yr.

Are they also getting strike pay? They are getting paid while they are on strike?

What kind of gibberish is this, gang?

for the record...I work ~60 hours a week. I'm responsible for people's lively hood.

I could not imagine asking to work less. what kind of grown ass man does that?

you are essentially asking to be responsible for less and still have the tribe feed you.

so don't cry when I fire you.

If UPS had gone on strike we would have gotten $500 a week, it's somehow based on your hourly wage.
We also would have kept our health insurance while on strike.
Although we would have had to participate in walking the strike line at least 8 hours 5 days a week from what I heard.
But you had to walk the line to get strike pay and keep insurance..

When we went on strike in 1997, strike pay was $50 a week.:eek2:
The 97 strike was like a 2 week vacation for me..

In my personal opinion, I'm not fond of any type of union... They do some good work and all, but I got fired by my union on my first day on the job... They took my money and pretty much told me to go fly a kite... Went the EEO route since I was getting screwed from all sides and they didn't even lift a finger... Got transferred to another site where I got retaliated... Same issue... Ended up in another job title, and we had an issue where the union rep had to be involved, and this cat couldn't care less for the situation... needless to say it was a negative outcome for someone, I was very indifferent of the situation due to my personal history.

How many years ago did things change to where the entire work force was asked to work longer hours for less?

The uaw voted to allow unlimited amounts of new workers into the country thus diluting their workers potential bargaining power.

Im naturally against corporate cronyism, which the big 3 are guilty of, however great idea by the uaw to go on strike into a massive economic recession. When the least amount of Americans can afford these new cars to begin with. Talk about timing.

Sort of off topic, I was watching the news last night and saw the Ford CEO talking. I was like that dude looks like Chris Farley. I then saw his name and looked it up, he's his cousin.

Whatever this forum told me to do

I’ll expound on my short answer

see, I work hard for the folks that work for me, unlike the C-level of the automakers.

    damn hard

I want to make sure I take care of me, my family and my employees. Like cavemen. A tribe takes care of each other, and yes there is a chief.

my job is to provide enough work for these folks to be happy and content- all for a damn fine wage.

and, so far, we do quite fine. Upstream O&g tends to do well in all weather.

it’s hard work. And my contention is the UAW is not representative of a good tribe.

    caveman shit. Simple

some folks get balled up over their position in life

    some folks get busy livin’.

He's not "flaunting". In fact, I do not recall him speaking about his employment position in a leadership, or bully boss position since he's been here.
You are avoiding the question regarding how he is part of the problem?
