I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Gotta disagree just a bit, the few Motorola’s still in service on my road are considerably stronger and than the Kenwood units.

You can look at MURS radios as well, lower power but lower frequency. No license required and range is better than FRS, no need for call sign etc.

At least with the ham radio license and test you’d learn what you’re doing with radio equipment and how to setup your rig properly.

I’ve given up on trying to get family and or friends to get licensed

Anyone else mount their radio in the center console? That's what I did but it over heats a little.

It just got really hot so I opened the center console lid and it cooled off.

Yea not a great place for a radio. Maybe add a vent or something or just move it under the seat. I attached a little bracket to my front seat bolts and put a little shelf under the seat for my kenwood and midland radio units (head units are elsewhere)

If you don’t have a remote head unit then that’s a little difficult

Another good option is under the steering wheel in front of your knees. Easy to reach and control.

Yup always keep a baofeng handheld in the day pack for when you need it. The batteries on them seem to be pretty good as well.
