So my salesman has informed me that his mid month allocation did not have any Tundras on his list. Not sure if this is regional or national.

are you a mechanic or engineer ?
Can you or anybody explain to me why they, Toyota, would put a series of parts that make up the turbo "system", in plain view like that.
Easy access to get to them, means the elements have easy access to them too.
Road salt spray, water, ice, snow, grit,
Pressurized car wash spray - everyone spends extra time with that hose in the wheel well.
Stones get flung out of the tire treads when on the road, from being on gravel trails.
You can hear them bang around as they exit.
Well now they have a path into the engine area?
Are these parts impervious to the elements ?

The whole underside of the engine compartment is open too you know… also that’s where the turbo is because that’s where the exhaust is… this part still sits pretty high and on the other side of the frame rail. The moving parts of the actuator are harder to see and blocked by the frame. F150 is like this too (see right side of the image for turbo). It’s been like this in trucks for many, many years.

With the way Toyota has handled the camshaft tower situation with the 5.7s over the years, is it any surprise how they are handling this issue? I really feel for those that are having to make a payment while the truck sits in the shop. Keeping an eye on this and I hope (and feel) that Toyota will sort out the issue and the Tundra will again/still be known as a highly reliable truck. I really like the new gen as it addresses all of my quibbles about my 2017 SR5 CM. I'd love to pick one up when the car market settles down again.

Read several other mentions of this and many others with their order on “QC Hold”. Pressed my dealer on exactly how long to order one and get it delivered. That was 4 days and a follow up email ago.

    Nothing to see here..

Well they never fixed that issue so I hope they this Wastegate issue for the 3rd gen guys they actually fix. But I'm with you would be terrible to have such a new truck sitting at a dealer without a solution or parts to fix it

Any 2022 purchasing additional extended warranty because of the wastegate issue?
Do you think Toyota would cover this issue longer than the 3 year/36 month?

Expecting delivery this week and just contemplating if I should purchase.
Anyone know the cost of extended warranty?

The 6 year/100k miles warranty on my 2021 was about $1,100 for reference. We also purchased this warranty for my wife's 2014 4runner and it saved us thousands on a leaky trans seal repair. I'm all for the extended warranty for the peace of mind.

Seeing these left and right on FB and Reddit. Appears problem trucks are still leaving lots and Techs are yet to be able to quickly diagnose.

$3700 sounds ridiculous, I'd shop around for a Platinum warranty at a better price.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
If the sensor can be reset, or the control software can be updated eliminating the problem I don’t have an issue with it.

If that is a Toyota warranty maybe that is an indication of how confident Toyota is in the new truck.

This isn't the turbo issue? Such a shame, I really do like these trucks but I think they will need 3-4 years to get a good idea of the issues it will have. Looking at the gold warranty it doesn't mention turbo but every other major component. The 7 year/200,000 km platinum warranty is $4700 - $5400 after tax. That's 10% of the value of the vehicle.

Or more likely a reflection of how much money the dealership wants to bilk you out of.

There is a bit of a $$ sweet spot if you can call it that, around 6-7 yrs & 160k (km). Once you go too far beyond that it seems it’s exponentially more $$.

Are those figures in US Dollars or Canadian Dollars?

Either way my question to the dealer finance office guy or gal would be pointed and unpleasant.

1.) Is the truck a pile of crap? Toyota knows this truck is going to be a maintenance nightmare past warranty and want 10% of vehicle value to warrant it past the normal warranty. Which tells anyone with a functional brain to run away and not buy it…. Or…..

2.) Is the dealership trying to skull fuck you on the price of an extended warranty on top of charging you MSRP and who knows what else? This tells me and anyone else with an IQ above room temperature that we shouldn’t do business with them.

Time to stand up and walk out either way.

Wow. I thought warranties were in the 1500-2500 range. Who is paying over 5k?

    Oh yeah, I know.

I was an ASE tech in a "different era". Back when dealers were still family owned, lawyers weren't too pesky, and we'd ask a customer if they could leave the car with us and have a tech drive it home.
We never just cleared a CEL on a new vehicle without offering a choice to the customer.

    But, that was then.....

The current procedure I’ve been hearing is to clear it and if the same code returns, the turbo will get replaced. Some people have wastegate stuck open code and some have wastegate stuck closed code but it seems like a one time error that triggers the CEL.
