Those names alone are proof enough for me they're going to be awesome.

My favorite is Hruska's in Ellinger.

There's also a smokehouse off 59 between Houston and Corpus that makes damn good ones. But I can never remember their name.

Because I got kolaches at a donut shop in Amarillo and wasn't impressed.

Pretty sure half the donut shops there don't even know what they are.

Long ass double today. Having a nice wind down cocktail, which became a double.

    how it should be made
    Aero Oaxaca
    3/4 oz mezcal
    3/4 oz luxardo liqueor
    3/4 oz creme de violette
    3/4 oz lemon juice

I just doubled the measurements to obtain a bigger drank. Cheers yall.

That sounds like something I’d be down with. Except I’ve never been able to stand the taste of mezcal. Does all mezcal taste like bandaids or have I just been getting shitty mezcal?

Little bit of both. Mezcal has a very strong flavor so it needs to be mixed with something acidic to keep it balanced.

That makes more sense. I think I’ve only tried it in stuff like Oaxaca old fashioneds and that doesn’t mask the taste at all. I’ll have to give it another shot.

the Oaxaca old fashioned's are so basic. Definitely try drinks with acidic components in them if you're trying to get into mezcal.
oaxaca is a state in Mexico. In order for states to grow agave for mezcal they have to be certified. Oaxaca is one of the biggest producers of mezcal.

To further explain mezcal a little more; it can be broken down to 3 categories. Each have different processing and regional distinctions.
    Mezcal
    Mezcal artesanal
    Mezcal ancestral

If I lived in AZ I'd want to try one of those medicine man guided mescaline or peyote religious experiences.

I’ve had similar experiences behind the mall there. But the guy's name was Dave and don’t believe he was a real shaman.
