Surprise Valley in the Grand Canyon - Deer Creek Falls and Thunder River area. I will be in Sedona Next year and remember not to put in for permits anywhere for April.

 I have visited both of those a few times from the river. Never done the hike down from the rim. I hope you got an early start.

NO permits in April so I can go to Sedona next year. This year I requested GC permits for April but I ended up getting them for the same weekend as T2S

Got it. Thought it was an issue with time of year, meaning too many people, weather, etc.

So here's a stupid question. It almost looks like skids and sliders would be a very smart investment before I committed to this in the future?

I believe they break out groups based on level of experience, equipment, etc.

Depends on which trails you want to run. They have trails that are good for stock trucks up to black diamond trails

Who wants to go to the amusement park and only ride the kiddie rides? Not only that it would come in handy for around here as well.

Some argue that broken arrow is black diamond. Depends on your opinion I guess.

Smiley rock is definitely back diamond:

Of the three trails we ran, Broken Arrow, Greasy Spoon and Smiley Rock... Smiley Rock definitely needed sliders. I hit my sliders atleast a half dozen times. You can get through the other two if you're careful, but it's much more fun having sliders and not having to be careful.

TC long travel. Deaver 420 SU leaf packs.
Skids and sliders are never a bad idea, even for DDs IMO. You never know what could be kicked up on the highway and sliders can mitigate parking lot damage. There are runs in Sedona that can be done w/o 'em but piece of mind is nice.
