I still have a pile of stuff from Christmas waiting to be installed. Kids are off to my parents this weekend, but the wife is already asking about “our plans”. Grrrr

That’s nice of you! I’d split it and have a day for myself for mods and then a day with her. Making sure she is not looking over my shoulder while I type this. :spy:

Comedy of previous answer aside, it's got it's ups and downs. On the bad days it sucks balls because it was never what I wanted. On the good days it's amazing freedom and inspiration to improve myself so that if I choose to get out of the single situation I actually could. Lots of introspection and analysis to see what I want to change and what I am able to change. No sense beating your head on a stuff you can't change.

It's individual. Worse for some than others. I'm also choosing not to focus on it, and instead looking for things to channel my time and energy into that will make life more enjoyable. Physical fitness has been a huge challenge for me in my life, and let's face it, nobody wants a fatty. That's something I have control over, and there is no downside. Get healthier, stay solo = better life ooooor get healthier, increase marketability = better wife. There is no lose in that situation.

@tripleconpanna you're on here pretty late this last week. You a nightshift guy, or just a fellow insomniac?

I've always been a graveyard person. If I have to get up early in the day to an alarm clock I'm tired the entire day; it doesn't matter if I got 4 hours or 10 hours, I still feel crappy all day. If I go to bed between 0600-0800 and get up on my own (usually around 1400-1600), I feel good throughout the night. Worked late except for call outs for the majority of my career (by choice). I was fortunate in the sense that my wife also worked nights, so we had similar schedules/habits. Neither of us were required to switch or rotate shifts like many employers require, and we never had kids.... So, we didn't spend our days off trying to flip schedules back and forth or get off work and do a crap ton of kid stuff then nap a couple of times throughout the day. We both usually got between 6-8 hours a day of sleep. Plus, living in Vegas, we could sleep w/the AC cranked up and the bedroom blacked out and avoid being out in the desert heat during the day. It was also easier in Vegas on days off since a ton of things were still open all night.

But, now that we are retired (especially up here on the coast) it's really different. The town closes down at about 6-9pm depending on the time of year. I tried to do the daytime thing, and after trying it for about 18 months, I gave up on it. I don't sleep good at night and always feel tired throughout the day if I'm up early. So, now days I'm usually crashing at about 0300-0400. I'll wake up (no alarm) about 1000, get up feed dogs and get a few of them worked, have some coffee, then head back home. Sometimes I'll take a nap for an hour or two during the day then be up late, other times I'll just stay up and still be messing around till 0200-0300...

Nice. My 100% natural rhythm would be similar. Up until 0300-0600 sleep until noon or beyond, but I can manage the shift swaps as long as I get enough time in between them. If I had to choose straight days or straight nights, I'd go days. Everything here is closed like it is up there, and I need to be up to handle business.

I'm just trying to be positive. Most people need it. I can handle misery and I can talk about it and how shit it is without going for silver linings and be just fine. The trouble is that when I talk like that it can drag other people down who don't know how to get out of it on their own, so I always throw the positive spin for their sake. I don't want to encourage people to wallow in sad, and so many just need to hear a little bit of positive from other people to flip everything around and improve.
