Nothing ever follows the book. The most accurate book to film adaptation I've ever seen is the LOTR trilogy, and even those deviated heavily. Just the nature of it.

For a series you have to do your best to just enjoy the content as it is and not make a comparison. I totally understand where you are coming from, but it is extremely rare for a movie to stay true to the books. I can't attest to its accuracy but I thought just as content it was decent.

The whole former military vet with elite fighting skills hero genre is so majorly played out.

I saw the first few minutes of the first episode and immediately thought:

I didn't get too far into it but am not surprised it wasn't ground breaking awesome stuff...

Yes, but for your show based on a book to be successful, you should do two things:

    1. Cast the villain correctly
    2. Not kill him off halfway through the season

In a show/story based in "real" world parameters, what other back story is believable for a guy being a badass?

If he's just automatically badass at everything with no reason then he's just a Mary Sue. If it's not fantasy, magic, or sci-fi that gives him an edge/skills, what do you propose?

Legit question with no real motive beyond wanting to understand. I've not seen the show, so no stake in it for me.

It's not so much about it being believable as much as its a trope that has been beaten to death.

I get it though, it's just entertainment for people who love that stuff. Just feels incredibly played out.

The only thing that seemed remotely interesting coming out of Amazon movies/shows was The Boys. At least it was kinda original for what it was. I didn't go past the first 2 seasons so I don't know how it ended or if it got worse over time.

Kid who grows up practicing jujitsu/martial arts.

As a Vet myself, I don't like watching reading these story lines either.

Side note: I always laugh when I meet some fat ass vet in public and they typically claim to have recon/airborne backgrounds. Yeah fucking right they do. If they have that background, they wouldn't be talking about it.

Eh, many vets don't talk. Some do. Most won't disclose anything classified, obviously, but many will share experiences.

I guess I'm just shallow. Love the classic action movie stuff. Then again, I watch stuff purely for enjoyment and hate love stories and rom coms.

    Never watched the boys.

Oh, and main reasons for the 1999 XJ-
-front axle is D30 high pinion, non-disconnect, large 297X axle U joints.
-the optional NP 242 Select-Trac transfer case can be shifter into; full time 2wd high, part time 4wd high, full time 4wd high neutral, 4wd low...which is awesome in the PacNW.
-the 29 spline chrysler 8.25 rear axle is better than the spindly D35...and of course better than the earlier 27 spline 8.25.
So yeah, the 1999 is the pinnacle year for the xj, but don't spread the word around just in case i want to buy one again sometime in the future.

I would really like to see a movie about the Korean War. Seems like a conflict that was incredibly interesting with plenty of heroics but not much in the way of modern cinema.
