Gran Turino... an epic movie from the late 2000s; that revials Blazing Saddles for PC commentary and acting

I agree, both are good movies. The Gran Turino DVD I have ripped to my hard drives, I had/have a collection of ripped movies, before streaming became better. 1/2 are kids movies, such as the Japanese ones like Castle in the Sky. My daughter likes to play with anything left out, so I can’t leave a bunch of discs sitting around. Everything is decoded and ripped. I can also take the movies with me on a flash drive.

I used a software interface called My Movies as the front-end software/database, which would interface with Windows Media Center on the backend. I would also use WMC to watch live TV.

WMC was too good, that’s why they killed it, corporate MFers. Now we are all bitches to streaming providers.

I worry a lot of jobs in many industries are going to disappear in the coming years. My job could easily be included. A customer will not like interfacing with a computer, but money always wins. You take my salary (fully burdened) plus the costs of my international trips and multiply that by four (normal team size) and the savings are huge.

If you ever watched The Expanse series, everyone living on “Basic”… that feels like where we are going. The next decade is going to be a wild ride

We have many DVDs to avoid all the streaming BS... when we did a lot of trailer camping, we'd also binge watch a lot of sit coms, etc. and had all of the them on DVD for that very reason!!!!

Yup, it’s why we stopped “making stuff” here. A lot of firms are just marketing and finance with everything else being done offshore. It started with unskilled labor moving, then IT and eventually other areas.

From a nuts and bolts perspective there are only two ways to increase profitability. Increase revenues or reduce costs.

On the increasing revenues side, you get new products, innovation etc…

Reducing costs, you can start by materials, manufacturing processes, location but at some point you can’t make the product any cheaper.

That’s when orgs become hyper focused on reducing overhead. Overhead is basically staff. You can cut staff to a certain point but it can get ugly quick.

It’s what you get when the focus of enterprise is maximizing profits at all costs. We see it quite often, new CEO comes in, fires a bunch of people reducing overhead costs, stock price goes up, CEO gets bonus updates his LinkedIn profile and bails. Two years later the company is either bankrupt or was purchased for pennies on the dollar by another firm.

I remember one episode of I Love Lucy teaching an important lesson that stuck with me—never sell a used car to a friend.

    A few other things that I learned from years of working with tradesmen;

Don’t fire a guy till he’s replaced, getting slow progress is better than being stalled.

Whenever practical, run your crews one man short of optimal. Productivity increases as the team pushes to meet goals.

Any crews running 10 or more men will generate a “joker”. You can’t get rid of him, if fired, another one will fill the void

I cannot stand Big Bang Theory.

If that’s wrong, I don’t ever want to be right.

    MASH is awesome. :fistbump:

my wife and I watched the entire Hill Street Blues series a few years ago. That’s a must watch for every gen, IMO. And the plots/subject matter still holds up today, eerily so, but not surprising.

Same, I never really got into it either. Which isn’t the same as what you’re saying, I’ll just acknowledge that.

Seinfeld, not a great show. I liked it for a while when it first came out. Then it was like—why am I watching these self-absorbed narcissists. I don’t like these characters, they’re getting on my nerves.

Really good point, a couple of them. :anonymous:

It might have been a work phase of my life, my daughter and wife would binge watch BBT, I was in the basement working or decompressing watching Sopranos, GOT, Dexter, etc.
