    I'll be honest. I don't know.
Because I haven't had an electric bill in the 10 months I've lived in our new house. Solar takes care of it all except for the $13 service fee.

We don't even have ac. 68 was the high today. The shade was nice on our hike though. Felt close to 60 there.

Cooling our house has been a pain. It makes me hate this damn house, because it’s three levels with the basement and one duct system. I have finally made it so the levels are close to the same temp in the summer, but to do that I mostly close the vents in the basement, and on the main level. Most of the cold airflow goes to the upstairs. Upstairs bedrooms face west and southwest, afternoon summer sun bakes us. We keep the house around 72 to 75 depending on how hot it is outside during the day, and drop it down to 70 to 72 at night.

We use an Ecobee system with satellite thermostats. This has helped because I’m able to use just the upstairs satellite thermostats to turn the AC on and off where cooling is the issue, and I bypass the thermostats on the main level. This has made it work better in the summer. The shaded dots are the set control points upstairs.

    IMG_6554.png

I’d like to install a foil radiant barrier in the attic, under the roof joists. I think that would help make the upstairs cooler. Really what I need to do is find a damn ranch house. Phuck these stairs.

Doesn't talk about it much. Mark always had Vette's. Here is his 18. He paid $40k. 20k miles. Spent $$$$$ for carbon fiber and had it wrapped. Fuck yeah!

I'd like to do that but I'm not sure yet how many vents I can close on the main floor without freezing the AC. I also don't necessarily want it to run 24/7 since the thermostat is on the main floor.

Our duct work is so leaky and there are so many vents on each level, it’s been ok for us. I don’t think I’m straining the system hopefully. Our main thermostat is on our main level too, and this is the main unit that replaced it. We just don’t use it to turn the AC on, just the small satellites, and then I start choking down vents to push more air where I need it. It’s still cold AF in the basement though. IMG_6560.jpg

We see temps of 75/76. On the top floor. Main level sometimes see mid 70's. And that's too hot.

We do have a projected heat wave coming this week. I'll watch temps and check in again to verify all this.

Depends on if I can open windows at night and then close them in the morning.

Or do you mean outside temps? We are going to hit 90º one day this week. Triple digits happen, but not super common. Anything over 75º and I'm melting.

This is a recent pic of my brother with my cousin Marianne. I worked for her husband, Wayne, before joining the Marines. Marianne is still hot. She dated a high school boy. Sunny Hills High School. Fullerton, CA. Jackson Browne. Yes that Jackson Browne.
