I can't remember specifically who it was in here but someone said as long as you get the point without undo energy spent trying to decipher, all is fair. Whether I say me and my dad or my dad and I everybody knows exactly what I was talking about :p

All of that fills four 1-gallon ziplock bags. I’d be surprised if it lasts 72hrs.

Is that legitimately the proper way of phrasing? Cuz that actually is disgusting. That sounds like somebody sniffing a glass of $1,000 wine talking.

It's the rule/argument about ending a sentence in a preposition. Which I'm all about.

Yes, getting the point across is the goal, but if you know the correct way and intentionally choose to do it incorrectly... well that's unfortunate.

To use a hyperbolic comparison; look at the difference between manslaughter and murder. The end result is that somebody is dead, so what's the difference? Intent. Doing it intentionally makes it worse.

    Interesting subject, language and usage.
I'm usually not a grammar NotZee, but there are certain triggers that will send me that direction.
I try to be grammatically correct, but I frequently am not.

To change direction slightly lets look at the difference one letter can make: slaughter vs. laughter.

Legitimate non-smartass question, besides it being a literary rule, what impact does it actually have to say me and my dad versus my dad and I? Some things make reading and comprehension harder depending on phrasing and words used, but not once have I ever struggled to read or had to pause after seeing anyone write or say me and (insert other thing here.) From my perspective it seems like something you can lose a single point on when submitting an English essay and doesn't really serve a real world purpose.

    Exactly this.

Teenage kids after 2 bites at dinner. I'm full.

    3 minutes later.

Sitting on couch eating a bag of homemade Chex mix. Whole bag is gone within the hour...

Grammar-perfect would be to imagine the sentence with separate subjects. You wouldn't say 'me went to the park', so 'Dad and I' would be the perfectly proper phrase.

    Mom, is that you?

She was a high school english teacher, so what you wrote is what I heard weekly when I was growing up. My brother and I used to intentionally say it wrong to drive her crazy. The joke is on us, because we're both "Dad and I" dorks now.

But the over-emphasis of the rule has resulted in the improper use of "Dad and I". Similarly, my ears are hurt when I hear John threw the ball to Dad and I.

Not sure if y'all have Chipotle where y'all are, but they serve burritos that weigh in over a legitimate pound. When my son was a teenager we'd go in there. I'd accuse him of swallowing his whole or asking him 'could you taste it at all?'. He'd look at me sheepishly, almost embarrassed, and ask if he could have another. Whole. 1lb+ burrito.

I also caught him putting a whole pack of lunchmeat on a sandwich once. Just the entire pack.

It's interesting you mention that. While it is an anecdotal story, I have had similar discussions with friends over the years.

The premise was always the following:

I love xyz protein it is the greatest thing ever (really nice steak, chicken, bbq brisket etc...). After a certain amount, I can't eat anymore.

    Juxtaposed with the following:

I always feel like crap after eating (name your favorite shitty carb here, Oreo's, pizza, cake, pasta, bag of Doritos whatever) but I can always have just a little more no matter how much I have...

I love ribeye steaks. I can pig out on steak like there is no tomorrow. But after eating an entire steak, the last thing I think to myself is "I would really love another ribeye".

Now compare that to a package of Oreo's. I can eat an entire sleeve of Oreo's no problem but I can go back and eat the entire package without too much effort. Nowhere whilst defiling myself do I ever stop and think, I can't handle another cookie...

Always seemed interesting to me. I know there are a bunch of theories out there explaining why but it was always the physiological aspect of it that intrigued me. 1 lbs of ribeye is hard to get down but 1 lbs of Oreo's, pizza, pasta, french fries, mash potatoes not so difficult...

I just find the premise to incredibly interesting! I'm a scientist at heart and always will be.

I've seen a lb of lunch meat disappear for sure.

2 chipolte burritos though? Just wow. That's a lot of food.
