Usually a pint of beer unless I'm drinking one of my brother's home brews, which are in the standard brown glass bottles (11.5 oz, I think?). For whisky, an ounce and a half neat.

This sounds like my worst nightmare ever. Not only do you have to sit through these meetings but you have to run them also? Nope, I'm out!

    I don't think I've had a MT meeting since '20-'21.

Seriously. The pandemic fucked everything up with all that MS teams crap. Meetings at my previous job became way too common after that. And everyone felt like they needed to be involved. I left that job almost 3 years ago and I haven't had a Teams meeting since. And I actually am productive now and get a lot done.

That was one of the few perks I had. They left me alone, and there probably wasnt anything I could not get away with. I left because they kept putting people in leadership positions that truly did not deserve to be, and were driving things downhill, in a hand basket.

Fake news. No way you can be productive without having a meeting first with Karen and a 26yr old MBA donk.

At some point I just quit going to the ones that I thought were a waste of time. I would pick and choose. And some upper level VP would always say, wheres Chris at? Everyone else in the meetings knew I was purposely not going. But they wouldn't say anything, because they knew they all wanted to be able to just skip out on the meetings, but either didn't have the balls to do it or were too new to the company. At that point I had been there for 24 years and was one of the most respected engineers with the largest amount of product knowledge out of anyone ever in the history of the company. So, the VP's had a meeting about me not going to the meetings. I was approached and told that meetings were not optional. I looked that fucker in the eyes and said "you really had a meeting about me not going to meetings because none of you can justify your existence without each others opinions". I never went to a meeting again and that was the start of my exit there, I almost immediately found something where productivity was valued and bullshit was not.

It's funny to me that companies and people are relying on some of the biggest perpetrators of privacy 'violations' to provide their security w/company secrets and such...

People: I can't believe my phone, my TV, my Alexa household device, my watch, my car, my computer, etc. is spying on me, tracking me and selling my information.

Also People: Man, I can't wait to share the biggest secrets of my life, my company etc. over this (insert whatever platform here) connection.

People Again: How did my competitor know about our developments or technology advances??? Must be an internal leak

    Long story short...

Unless you're sharing information at a campfire w/no 'devices' present, you DON'T have security

and yes someone else said it earlier, but meetings in general are predominantly a waste of time and a way for folks to bolster their own egos by hoping the boot lickers will tell them how awesome they are

Whatever this forum told me to do
    "Boot lickers" I love it.

I believe that's one of the insults I used that helped get my ass catapulted out of the beer distributor.

we had a meeting EVERY week over stupid shit.
    led by stupid people.
it was simply a way to mask poor management.
the lowest form of trust is "do what I say".
and they were simply trying to confirm you did what they said.

I am so thankful to not be there.

Unpopular opinion, meetings have their place. If they are clear, focused with some sort of information or problem/situation that needs to be talked through with necessary feedback provided for they can be valuable.

Meetings for the sake of meetings where only a handful of people are engaged for a topic that shares no direct information or requires no response is a waste of time.

Speaking for myself. I would rather have a 30 - 45 minute meeting in a conference room to go over shit and get it hammered out than fiddle fart around with email/voicemail/teams for a week.

The quality of meetings depend on the skill of the people holding them and many people suck ass at it.

Part of the problem is that meetings are generally longer than they should/need to be. People are busy and attention spans are short. Keep to the topic at hand, table other discussions that may derail the topic for another time and be focused.

I have been in meetings where the discussions get derailed or scope creep of a topic renders it useless and everyone looks around at each other going wtf was the point.

    Those are poor meetings.
