Suppressor story--

when I go to the range I set up on the 300yd steel gong section

I shoot the 308 1st, then move to the 5.56 <Daniel Defense v1 i think.>

I use a Silencerco Omega 300 <30cal>. https://silencerco.com/silencers/omega-300/

on that day, I had just finished setting up the 308 when 3 dudes pull up in an f250

looked in mid 30's, fit.

I shoot 20 rounds of 308 in about 30 minutes...no rush.
for those inquiring minds - I can put 15 of 20 rounds on the 8" gong @ 300yds.
Remington r700. the thick barrel one. not expensive
I use a Vortex Venom 5-25x56....yes, 300yds is easy. it's the scope.
I shoot russian 308 slag (wolf ammo) I get from SGammo. I'm cheap.

they set up with one table between us...so, they will be shooting steel gongs as well.
Ah - I see they will use a suppressor...no muzzle brake shit today!

I begin my shots & continue thru my 20 rounds.

all this time, I think they may have shot 5 rounds. weird to me.
after each shot was a bunch of military aiming lingo...yawn. 3 dudes. on gongs.
the shooter was clearly the alpha...the other 2 were boot-lickers.

so, I go to switch to the 5.56.
I take off my suppressor and set the HOT bitch on the table.
I put my 308 ON THE RACK and install my barrel cooler*.

I get out the 5.56 and spin on the same HOT 30 cal suppressor.

As I'm about to snap in a magazine, I see a lull next door & commence a conversation

I ask about his suppressor:

me- pardon - what type of suppressor is that, it has a nice report. <I am genuinely interested>

bootlicker - its a model we make.

me - ah, nice. are y'all local?

Alpha - yes, I am in league city. <notice pronoun change)

Alpha - may I ask what you spent on your suppressor?

me - sure...I spent $800 , but it was buy one, get one from Silencerco...I got an Octane 9 as well.

Alpha - you got ripped off. We only charge $400 for our suppressor. <ponder that>

lessons/observations/discussion points:

don't insult potential customers

don't act like your inferior product is superior to a superior product...even if it is.

be nice/professional, especially if you are the owner of a gun related company and you are at a GUN RANGE.

One should have clearly seen I was right in his demographic to buy from him. his ego blinded him.

I will never cast a shadow in his store. and I will tell 3 friends.

if you are going to act like you are dialing in a scope.... doing it on the gongs is not a good look.

I have no qualms with aluminum suppressors.
I can see the need if hunting in the back country. but, that is why they make Titanium suppressors.

at no time were either of us mad or uncomfortable.
I wished him well.

I understand being proud of your product.
but, don't disparage others' equipment without knowing what they have.

when I'm done with the 5.56 - I leave the suppressor on to cool it down.

When I was discharged from the Corps in 95 I never told a soul that I interacted with, that I was a vet, furthermore a marine vet. Granted I was still living in San Diego and didn't want a lot of the new relationships I was building to judge me on my previous life. Long story that I'll keep short, but far too many Marines are engrossed by their egos. Unfortunately you seemed to have met one. I've also found that most asshat Marines that go into the civilian sector and want to let everyone know that they are former Marines weren't even infantry but rather some pogue MOS. Your story tracks and I applaud you in how you disengaged from the conversation.
