I can't honestly think of a reason to go to shitcago. New York at least has some museums, cool architecture, and some famous pizza. Still won't go there either, but more reasons than IL.

Last time I was there was 2019... Was staying in the McCormick Place area, did the Architecture river cruise (at night obviously), ate some pizza (ok a lot of pizza), did a fly-along during an air show w/the Golden Knights (Black Team) and taught 2 classes at a conference.

Had a great time there actually, and the only real dicey situation was the uber rides from my hotel to a small airport in Gary, IN and back to meet up for the air show...

Dude picks me up to return to the hotel and says. 'Hey, do you mind if I side track for just a second to grab fuel. It's cheaper for me to gas up here than it is in Illinois'.... MF'r you should've done that shit BEFORE you agreed to pick me up. So, the 90 is right next to the airport, but now that we're on a fuel run I'm in the middle of some shit hole neighborhood in Gary, IN thinking I'm gonna end having to stab this dude in the neck... and then he starts telling me about his past (alright, here we go) and right on cue.... dudes' an ex-felon released within the last year

So, at this point it's time to let this dude know what's up in no uncertain terms.... we get done w/a very brief 'discussion' and he then says, 'You know, boss... I'm just gonna go ahead and fuel up after I drop you off in Illinois'. Yeah, good idea F'r.

I can guarantee you, we were headed to his 'neighborhood' to get jacked by some of his 'buddies' all the while he would claim to be a 'victim' as well and would have no idea who these people were... Not my first rodeo, fool

This kinda shit is the main reason I'll use a CAB whenever possible. It's not perfect but most jurisdictions do a pretty good job of screen and doing backgrounds on cab drivers; at least more so than some of these other clowns...

 

Yeah, this is why I take my own vehicle or have a rental. The inability to carry in those shit areas is a huge deterrent for me.

Something to think of passing along to any and all family members if you guys haven't already done so... is that ANYTIME you're picked up by an Taxi, Uber, etc... ALWAYS check BOTH rear doors to verify the child safety lock is NOT engaged prior to entering the vehicle

 

Yeah, you get that perk due to job history. I don't.

 

Keep in mind, when you're dealing w/a non-permissive traveling situation at lease carry a blade w/you. It will put you in a position where you'll have to check a bag if you're flying, but at least when you're out and about at destination you have something on you; or just stop into the first shop you find and grab one if you'd prefer to not check the item...

Quite frankly, when riding in the rear of someone else's vehicle, a blade would be a far more efficient tool for the most part in dealing with any 'in-cab' issues
