Boo. As much as I hate most social media and think it fucks up our kids generally, this should be left up to the parents not some bureaucrats.

 

Porn isn't legal for kids. Justified as not being good for them.

Pretty sure porn hasn't made nearly as many kids get a permanent necktie or suck start a shotgun as FB, insta, or twitbox.

That has a negative enough impact on children to be outlawed and that is generally considered acceptable. Especially when it is left up to each state, so those affected have a direct say. Right?

Why do you object to a similar standard being applied to social media?

 

I absolutely see both sides of this discussion. The parenting side assumes parents are doing their job. That said, is it social medias fault that people are assholes? Can't online bullying happen within video games, via email, in a chat room? Where does the line get drawn and how big of a bubble are we creating?

 

Maybe we need to bring back dial-up, but only for minors, so there is some pain involved in enjoying the word wide web.

 

Oh, I agree. Parents should be on duty, and the best adjusted, nicest, and hardest working kids I know come from families that didn't allow their kids to have phones or social media. I hate that parents slack and the goobermwnt thinks they can fix it with laws.

I didn't bring up porn, you did, so here's how I differentiate. Porn in one way or another has been with us for thousands of years, just look to the Romans to see how they did it. Do I think porn is destructive to our kids, probably, but not as bad as some anonymous person telling our kids they should be ashamed of the body they were born with because of feelings.

 

I was drawing a comparison, not trying to put words in your mouth or anything. The next post was clarifying the thought process behind it.
