OK, so hear me out. Not a huge turkey fan but my wife likes them so I go through the ritual every year and cook them with some mixed results. Last year she bought a frozen one for the first time ever and I miscalculated the thawing time and it ended up being totally uneatable, totally my fault. This year my wife realized I was still pissed from last year and recommended we just buy a small fresh turkey breast which will be much easier to prepare even though I'm one of the weird ones that likes the dark meat. So I say fine, sounds good. So she comes home today with a 12 LB. turkey breast (basically a turkey without legs) plus two additional legs because she knows I like them. Pretty sure I'm still cooking a full turkey, what am I missing here?

 

You can now cook it pre-disassembled. Make one leg in a different flavor from the other. Make the breast different from both. Tough to do with a whole frozen bird unless you wait out the defrost and do the work to disassemble it yourself.

Think of it as time saved and options opened.

I don't know her well enough to say if that's the dynamic. As a complete outsider to this I will say that I generally try not to attribute to malice that which can be explained by ignorance. It makes me hate people less if I can believe they are stupid instead of outright malicious or evil.

 

My wife wants her turkey on turkey day, malicious or not, don't get in her way she'll destroy you!

I feel the same as you about turkey (dark meat for the win) and my wife the same as yours. We got a 12lb whole bird and I suggested I fry it this year. Well I got shutdown hard with the you expect me to eat a Disney World Turkey I forgot about our Disney fried turkey leg experience she wasn't a fan. I tried to explain to her that a whole turkey is not same and she would still have the whole breast (white meat) She ain't haven nothing to do with it
The only good thing is we always go somewhere for T Day then have our own little turkey and fixins on Sunday
