These 'grandfather' clauses do come w/some exceptions, so it's important to note where your specific state lands on the new laws...

Most LEOs are not looking to enforce this crap. However, it is important to note the full language of these new laws as they hit the books, so you know where you stand and what your options are

I also just checked a couple of forums (ymmv) and consensus is that if it's not illegal in either state, mags can be shipped. It's legal in Texas, so I'd be off the hook (and on another watchlist), but any recipient might get in trouble.

 

[squints, throws up hands] Why have a law, then? I get (but don't agree with) why someone would want a law, but building a loophole right into the fabric of it seems like building a dam out of chicken wire.

 

Now that my mind had a second to chew on it - - it's likely one state rep required the amendment before they'd vote for the bill that another state rep wrote. Both think they're doing something important.

In NY, we're only allowed to carry a pen. It has to be blue (because black is assault ink) and it can't have high ink capacity. But they discourage actually using it to defend yourself.
