there is a ceiling gross earning amount ($214,000 for 2022 if married filing jointly) that prevents you from doing a Roth IRA the “traditional” way and instead requires you to “back door” it - if you are above that limit I would advise finding a good financial advisor to assist you with that process. it’s not a bad idea to use one even if you aren’t above that limit.

We use a local Edward Jones rep and sit with him once a year to review where things are at and what adjustments to make. They handle the automatic payment processing and investments in the Roth, and they pull a minor fee out of the earnings every year. It’s really an “out of sight, out of mind” sort of thing that has me sitting very comfortably for retirement when combined with my 401k through work.

Nice thing with a Roth is you can also take out what you’ve directly contributed into it (not gains from the actual investments) at any time with out taxes or penalties. We were able to do our kitchen remodel in 2020 for cash by dipping into that.

A couple huge British pennies from around the turn o the century.
An actual silver dollar from 1922.
A French coin from the 1700s.
A few other things. I have an old Ford key that someone said was from a model T, but I haven't researched it. Not sure if they even used keys.

This is very similar to how we do it as well; especially pre-retirement...

I handled bills cuz I'm super anal about that shit and she handled groceries and other day to day living expenses; we both paid into our 457s and other retirement ventures and into a 'vacation' fund; any OT, Call Out, etc. went into our individual accounts to be used at our individual discretion. It was nice because I never asked or felt like I had to tell her about nominal purchases, and she did the same. It gives a sense of individuality within the relationship, plus it was nice for doing gifts and such cause you weren't pulling shady shit to try and hide what you were doing w/$$$

When my kids get a little older, my wife wants to bring in some income. I'm encouraging her to do something she's passionate about, not just some shitty job for a check.
She has a fish/wildlife degree but that field requires full time with odd hours usually.

We have another 7 years on our term policies. My wife said she was thinking about stopping payment on them, but $1300/yr for double 500k policies seems like a no brainer to maintain. I have even more than that on myself through work. I told her that if she was gonna collect, she better make it a quick death and make it look like an accident.

Those giant puff mushrooms are tasty. Slice them about 3/4-1” thick and sear in butter.

 

I just ordered an 8" sub, a 4 channel amp with built in crossovers and (2) 2-way 4" for mids/highs. I disconnected the rear door speakers because they're kinda crappy and the HU doesn't seem to drive the rears much.
It's not high end stuff. Just enough to add a little bump to the system. Was only gonna be $150. Not even really worth mentioning, actually.
Got it all for $41.
I'll brag about that shit all day.
