I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering that.

 

Chaos diverted, I think. They finally decided to stop breaking everything for a minute.

 

There’s one that looks brand new up in the hills overlooking Lake Chelan. Wife doesn’t seem to be interested. Think she’s still stressed from spending a week in the trailer with Covid. I’d go solo but not sure that’s a good idea… hard to read the tea leaves these days.

 

Yeah, forced trailer time wouldn't be that fun.

 

Not sure exactly, but at least a couple of times a year...

The angle of the dam is deceptive. It appears to be almost straight up and down in photos and such (even looking over the edge), but it actually has a decent incline to it the first hundred feet or so... between the angle of the face and the weight of the rope you had to actually feed rope through your gear to even move, then once you were passed that angle you could move as fast as you wanted depending on your orientation...

When you first climb over and 'weight the ropes' it's definitely an interesting feeling... as you can see is this pic below, if you're going aussie, your body wants to almost lean back, and it's a brain fuck to plant your feet and lean into it so you're perpendicular to the face of the damn.

 

Yeah, not sure I could go over that edge willingly. Heights mess with me. I'll fly in a plane or helicopter staring out the windows all day, but ladders, ropes, cliffs, etc.... nope.

How many times did you go over it?

 

Lots of folks looking for attention or just wanting to be done w/life especially around the holidays, and that kind of a venue made sure your story was going to be heard....

The Vegas valley, historically speaking, averaged about 1 suicide per day; and was once dubbed the suicide capital of america.

A study that was done showed that folks who lived there were more prone to it than anywhere else (not sure of the validity or basis of the study), but it also found that more suicides were committed by guests/tourists than residents...

Honestly, I’m surprised it is that low. Vegas is a cesspool IMO and depressing just to walk around.

 

Yup. I've driven through twice, stopped once, and have no intentions of ever going there again.

Skydiving was a blast!

 

We went two years ago and will never go back. Thankfully a coworker took a work trip there a few years ago. I don’t want to go back even if someone else pays.

 

If I weren't fat I'd skydive. Different than walking up to an edge. IDK why.

 

Not unless they are paying for a penthouse hotel and hookers so I don't have to leave the room. Even then, I don't know if I'd want to go.

 

A fun cesspool though! 4 days this spring was enough, I don't need to go back.

 

That’s one thing I wish I did when I was younger and my vision was better. Cannot see chit anymore without glasses so it wouldn’t be enjoyable. Same for bungie jumping.

 

You might be surprised, scooting your ass out the door of a plane with your legs dangling is a mind fuk. It doesn't make sense

 

Yeah, I just don’t (can’t) have fun in that environment. All my sensors get overloaded and I shut down.

 

You could probably get goggles that fit over glasses, I'm sure that's a common issue.

It was part of a 2-week tactical rappel and rope rescue course I went through; we did numerous venues over the course of the training class such as parking garages, off the roof of a casino, a bridge under construction near lake mead, overpasses and a fire training tower. I've got to say, that while the dam sounds cool (and I wouldn't trade the experience), I got more excitement and had more fun doing the fast rope exercises and going inverted off a 250+ foot bridge; not having anything under your feet and moving head first toward the ground (way faster than you should) was up there in terms of being exciting and feeling like you weren't really in control...

 

I was def on edge and looking over my shoulder the whole time, I wish it was practical to carry there.

 

Sounds like we need to fund a skydiving trip for you.

Oh, misread the quote and thought you were talking about the skydiving, not vegas. My bad.

 

Haha. Nope. I did my fair share of stupid stuff when I was young. Retired from all that stuff now.

 

You fly all the time. Not that much crazier to just jump out of the plane with a 'chute.

 

Your crazy scale must be in metric. The only crazy I do anymore is eat weird stuff in countries with sketchy food safety

Nah. Everybody has a certain degree of death wish in them. Some more than others, and some fear it more than others, but it's there in all of us. Not crazy at all. Just the way we are.
