At one point Quaker State bought Slick 50 and advertised it as a quality engine protector. It cost me an overhaul. When I contacted them about it and sent parts damaged by the treatment, they sent back a letter that they'd looked at the parts under a 10 power magnifying glass and found that it couldn't be their problem. For those who don't know, Slick 50 contains Teflon, copper, and sodium. If you want to weld parts together with a hammer, you use a metal (like copper) and an impurity (like sodium). Slick 50 attached bits of copper to the valve faces (old engine with old valve seals), and to the piston rings. A couple of years later Quaker State basically admitted that it was snake oil and agreed to a settlement to a class action suit. Since I had filed a complaint, they sent me my part of the settlement. It was a discount coupon for Quaker State oil. Like I'd ever use that filth again. I've since heard of other horror stories. One was from a parts house that had to replace two engines. The pressure relief valves on the oil pumps were welded open and the engines suffered major damage. The store replaced the engines since they'd recommended the product, and it was one of their major customers. Another was from someone that had the piston rings welded in place causing major oil consumption. The list is pretty long.

I had my husky put down at home just for that reason. I know you think it will be bad memories and want to do it at the vet, but no one has to see your family distraught and they will allow you to pay at a later date.

Good plan, that'll make it suck a little less.

Our lab turned 12 yesterday, not looking forward to that day. We got her while my wife and I were dating.

I'm sorry, man. It's hard enough to deal with losing a friend without having logistical concerns.

It’ll only be me taking her. Don’t need the kids to see me so I can “let it out” without having to be tough if that makes sense
If we did it at home, the kids may want to be home and I don’t need them being any more exposed to it than needed. Idk if that makes any sense …just does in my head

I can hold it together if it’s a quick 2 second interaction. Any longer than that I’ll just have to do my best

Depending on how old the kids are, could be a good life lesson. Death is part of life. But I get ya, do what you think is best for you and yours. Never easy, they are with us long enough to be family, but too short in the grand scheme of things. Hope it goes as well as it can for all involved.

Yes, it makes sense.... and I understand your thinking on this; and please understand I have zero experience as a parent, so my thoughts on this part are simply a theory...

I would think that the kids have seen the progression of age w/the pup, and if they are old enough to understand that the pup is now sick and has hit a point in its life where it is no longer enjoying life (playing, eating, etc.); it's a chance for them to learn the importance of being there for someone in a time of great need (even if that means absorbing a bit more pain yourself for the time being); it's a chance for them to understand in greater detail to passing of life; and once the crappy feelings about being there are gone they can understand and begin to appreciate the comfort and closure that comes from having been there for a pup through it's final moments.

I may be thinking a bit too deep on that one, and obviously don't know their ages (which plays a huge role in their ability to understand, etc.). Also, please know that I'm saying this with the utmost of respect and would not want you to even consider doing something (especially w/your kids that doesn't sit well w/you) just wanted to offer a contrasting thought and opinion to a difficult situation :(

How's Abby doin'?? Any changes on her eating or activity at all??

Kids are aware of her life / wellness and know it’s past due. Wife had to pick her up yesterday to take her out. Don’t think she’s eating much, if at all still. Just drinks some water

I saw a saying that I agree with. Dogs were put on this planet for exactly two reasons: to be man's unwavering best friend, and to teach/prepare us about losing someone you love. In the end everyone in here will respect you no matter what decision you make but personally I would say that they should be a part of the process. It's okay to have feelings and to be emotional and for them to see you struggling shows that you are a human being and that the dog meant as much to you as it did them.

    Poor Abby :(

If she's not taking even her favorite treats I doubt this will make a difference, but if you happen to be out and near a grocery store you can check for these....
    shopping_ac43c2515a92d79b5d468364394d89a73aebb466.png

... they are a frozen pet treat, and because it's unique and cold it may entice her to try a little. :) Most grocery stores carry them in the frozen human treat aisles near the people ice cream cups  and if she doesn't eat them you're pit will love 'em!!!

Lastly, if you're trying to get any extra water or electrolytes into her if she's not drinking enough feel free to use an eyedropper to give her small amounts of water or even some Unflavored Pedialyte if she'll take it (small amounts of both or she may vomit); but this will help keep her kidneys from shutting down on her.

Once it's warmed up, this truck is so much better on fuel when I'm running around town. Not sad about this at all.

Nope. That was actually some minor uphill, then down. It's the same stuff my Tundra would report 20 MPG running once warmed up.

It's an odd blessing I have. I usually beat EPA estimates for fuel economy. I have for every vehicle I've owned since I started caring back in 2005.

Ty :D since it was so damn nice out today I figured I had to go for a ride after work. As the sun went down it got a little chilly so I cranked the heat while keeping the windows down and figured it was too pretty out not to take a couple shots out the window.

Dash plastics scratch easy. Learned that from the Tundra. I do need to get my protector on there so I can keep it clean, though.
