The more time I spent looking at them, the more time I keep thinking about the fact I have 175,000 SF of industrial pipe and metal fab shop space at my disposal (for a fee, of course). I just need to get them modeled up and turned into something real...

If only I had a set I could steal all the measurements off of.

Holy hell! I don’t check in for 24 hrs and was 5 pages behind. What I learned…

Don’t coat sliders in bed liner

Ranch on pizza is okay in some cases

Don’t mention anything about wives and creamy dressings.

Offer solid modeling help in hopes to get a discount on some SS sliders.

Density of SS and CS are essentially the same - not enough to be noticeable in this application.
Strength is a bit nebulous... depends on the grades of material, wall thickness, and a few other things. CS actually usually has more ductile/tensile strength, while SS typically has greater hardness. The corrosion resistance is one of my primary thoughts...though that is also dependent on a few factors, including the tools and consumables used in prep. It is very easy to introduce rust into stainless steel with just a little bit of mishandling.

There are so many different grades and compositions of "carbon" and "stainless" steel out there... and so many that are specialized to different industries as well. Christ, just the different types of steel used in knife making is crazy, and that's a drop in the bucket for metallurgies used in process piping systems. If I really wanted to go nuts, I could build some sliders out of P90 chrome boiler tubing... but at about 3/8" wall thickness on 1.9" OD (1-1/2" nominal) pipe, those fuckers would be heavy as hell. If I had them welded out to our P90 piping specs, I could use them as 900psi air tank reservoirs - not sure how I'd ever actually pump them up though, I don't think the ARB twin compressor outputs that sort of pressure.

You are giving me flashbacks of my metals class and when I interned in the Paccar’s metallurgical lab.

So…yep, yep, yep….get it. Seems like a big PITA just for a more corrosion resistant material, if all other things are equal-ish.

    How does SS take paint?

Just have @Green Thunder hook you up w/measurements once he picks his up before they get mounted. Shipping up to this area is freakin' nuts, so I'd think you could actually get a good couple of handfuls of folks w/interested in this!

Essentially the same as carbon if prepped right. Sandblast and high adhesion primer.
Honestly, the time and effort involved will end up being more than just buying some WKOR or CBI sliders and being done with it. Good prep, good primer, good paint, and something I can touch up easily with some cardboard masking for overspray and the whole thing becomes a moot point. Putting sliders on my truck means I'm committing to taking it places where I actually need sliders instead of the NFAB steps I have - places where I might need to jack up the truck from the side using the slider, or where I might actually need the slider to keep me from fucking up the pinch welds and lower body. At that point, abuse and pinstripes are a given and a few battle scars on the sliders just remind me of why I own a truck and not a sports car.

I do think painting the sliders Lunar Rock wouldn't be a good idea, unlike how good @jewsNbrews Voodoo sliders look on his truck. But a good hard-core high-solids matte black...

    Completely unrelated...
my younger lab is a walking toxic gas cloud. That dog farts and burps constantly. We put her on a probiotic a couple of years ago that helps a LOT but she still has some raucous gas every few days...to the point where she'll wake up and leave the room herself.

She just farted so bad that BOTH of the dogs got up and walked out. If I didn't know any better, I would think she had just shit under the kitchen table.

Welcome to my Friday night. I need another drink.
