Guess a wire must have came out of the wirenut at some point last night / early morning. Glad it was just a process of cutting them off, new wire nut and electrical tape so it doesn’t happen again

Lesson learned…check builders work when you can. I phoned my neighbor / friend who owns his own HVAC company. He came over and showed me things I didn’t know, and did maintenance (preventive) on it and refused to charge me. Of course, I tipped him out as it would be the fraction of a cost for a service call + labor.

Good to add the electrical tape on the wire nuts. That has been on my handyman construction techniques list for a number of years now. For a while years ago, I would actually get my 100/150 watt soldering iron and do it, and then add electrical tape.

I’ve done several electrical jobs at home, but now I’ll always add it after securing the wires

Yep. I added two outlets to our crawl space yesterday. I’m going to add a couple of fans to the vents to drop the humidity down a little. I decided not to just add extension cords as my PE consciousness would not allow it. I used up almost a 100 ft roll of 14/2 to do it. It’s a damn big crawl space. Anyways, added the electrical tape.

I also will not allow extension cords into extension cords. Too much of a fire hazard and my anxiety goes through the roof

    Funny.
I was lol’g at myself today. Somehow anxiety came up in convo last night. I told the group anything with nouns drives my self diagnosed anxiety through the roof

    “Nouns?”

Ya. People, places, and things mostly.

I used 12 gauge for my recent shed wiring but this was already 14 gauge to the GFI socket I tapped off of. The fans I will permanently mount a draw 8 watts…

    For outlets, 100%.

Also in this season of cold weather:
I also mentioned to my wife recently “no extensions on space heaters at all”. Direct plug into the wall outlet. She had a dyson space heater with a 16 gauge extension.

He was insured. The car is a 2011 Impreza Sedan - bluebook lists it in the ~$6-7k range. When my wife was doing the claim this morning and entered in just the locations that were damaged and submitted the claim without adding pictures yet (she was having trouble with the upload), our insurance immediately already responded it would be totaled. That’s the quick and cheap way out - we’ll have to haggle with them over what “true value” is based on them lowballing the number and us having to show local pricing that exemplifies a higher value and eventually settle on something. The insurance isn’t stuck having to provide us with a rental car, travel reimbursement, or anything else while it is being repaired - they just write a check and walk away because their commitment is over at that point. Meanwhile, we’re stuck trying to find a comparable replacement in a fucked up vehicle market that means trying to find something when you NEED it, not when you have the time and luxury to shop and wait.

    #this

Ultimately, we’ll probably upgrade the wife and then “sell” the wife’s current Forester to our daughter (sell = zero interest loan on a steep discount against actual market value) so that we can at least know the history on the vehicle rather than buying someone else’s throw-away. This is where it’s going to hit us in the pocket book any way we slice it…

Fucking douche is goddam lucky he didn’t kill someone (my daughter) last night. But he’s probably already had daddy bail his cunt ass out (and pay off someone to sweep the DUI under the carpet) while his insurance cuts ours a fast check and we have to deal with the bullshit.

I have to carry it for work - I’m on vehicle stipend and that requires me to carry a bunch of extra stuff and submit to annual MVR’s.
