I think I found the sliders that I want for Saffron. :) They're aluminum, so light weight, have nice looking top panels instead of the dimple stuff everyone else does, and should readily work for the minor off-roading I may do. They aren't good for jack points, but I don't need them for that if I'm staying stock height.

Her longest is 160 miles. She did two that year - the other was 90 miles - with a two week break between them.
She has hiked the entire 512 miles of the PCT through Washington over 4 years, then had done a couple ~120 mile weeklong trips in the Eagle Cap Wilderness in NE Oregon.

I put these on a 4runner not to long ago. Pretty nice stuff. Put on a roof rack from them too.

Good to know. Did you ever bash them into anything, or were they more of a "just in case" item for you?

I installed it all for a friend. It's a pavement princess. But they seemed stout to me.

Ah, I see. I know that aluminum is less than ideal for heavy use armor, but I feel like it'd be a decent enough piece of ablative armor for an "oh sh*t" moment. Obviously it won't slide over rocks like steel because it's softer and would be more grippy, but that isn't planned for my truck anyway. She'll be a pavement queen with some dirt and mile trails, but if I wanna get stupid I'll just bust out the RZR. Way cheaper to replace than the truck!

Nice shiny tires there, too! Appreciate the pics and info. Only thing I see there that I'm not a huge fan of is the lack of step space for the rear doors, but that may not be true one the door is open. IDK the back seat of the 4Runners very well, so IDK how much step would be needed. Not a huge concern for the Taco as I'd run kickouts and I never have passengers in the back seat.

Yeah they don't have a lot of step space.

Well that's the low bar I set for them. Don't have a seam where I can feel it, and stay in place. The cheapo hanes/FotL/etc. all meet that standard.

Hmmmm. Not sure if I wanna do sliders and capitalize on the free shipping, or go for a GFC topper... I've got some additional funds from these two OT shifts, and I actually won a $1500 prize.:eek2: I never win anything, so prepare for doomsday as it is surely a sign of the impending apocalypse.

    Congrats!
I assume you would sell the rack and RTT? What is the weight difference between the two systems?

Oh no, not the GFC with the tent. Just the topper. My current RTT is better quality than what the GFC tent offers.

I'll have to check the topper weight. I know it's more than the rack, but it adds full enclosure to the bed. Trade off for sure.

Gotcha, your tent would go on the topper and sell the rack? Do i have that right?

@NWPirate so here's the topper info.

    Screenshot_20221226-072614_Samsung Internet.jpg

So, that's a net gain of 85 lbs maximum.

    More than likely, yes.

I've been gradually switching over all my winter socks to Smartwool because nothing else keeps my feet warm.

For summer, I just wear cheap black socks or whatever funny ones people buy me for Christmas. (I'll get pictures of this year's later.) I'm honestly not even sure where to buy cheap sweat socks now that Sears is closed.

Right on, I like the idea of the topper for security and weather protection.
To play devil's advocate; you would be more top heavy, and the tent above the cab might be a mpg killer.

Both true, but I'm mild in my adventures. Sketch duty falls to the RZR as it is much cheaper to lose than the Taco. The MPG is a slight concern, and part of what is giving me pause. Not sure how the economy is going to fair and how much fuel costs will matter.

Valid concern, especially with your freeway travels to see friends/ family.

Well, I'm going to lie down and try to get at least a few hours sleep. Then I need to get my sleep schedule flipped for day shift on Wednesday.
