Really? That's badass! I thought the paint/lights looked better than the usual nail polish enamel and cheap stickers hot wheels usually does.

 

It only has forward and reverse at the back wheels, but also had a button to make them go in opposite directions for donuts. It does zip around the track quickly and stays on surprisingly well.

 

Are the Flight chocolates something special?

They look neat, but how much "better" is it than average? I'm usually pretty happy with a Twix, Mr. Goodbar, Snickers, or Reese's Sticks to be honest. Boxed chocolates... I've had Whitman's Samplers, and they are good, but I'm uncultured and don't know better.

 

You'll want to just stick to the Hershey varieties!!! Your palate isn't refined enough to appreciate a chocolate Flight!! Especially w/that attitude

All joking aside, they are amazing. It isn’t scarf-on-the-commute-home chit. It’s stuff you want to savor.

 

Not trying to be a dick, but to some extent I would say that you would want to approach these with similar outlook to any other sort of "fine dining" experience. You'd want to have an open mind and an open palette, and try to experience them not in comparison to something like a Twix or Whitman's, but rather try to understand the nuances and the intricate flavor combinations.

Whether it is good wine, good spirits, good chocolate, good tea, good coffee, or really good food, there is a little bit of practice and a little bit of trust that is needed to really understand and appreciate what some of this stuff is.

I've had the pleasure of doing single origin chocolate tastings (the entire bar is made of nothing but a single crop of cocao and a small amount of sugar), and it is incredible the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) differences between crops from different years on the same farm, and crops from different farms or regions in the same year.

There - now you know. I'm a food and chocolate snob.

Not at all a dick explanation, and exactly what I figured. That's why I was asking. I'm a low class palette kind of guy, but I'm open to try (most) things. A bigger question for me specifically would be: Is it worth trying the chocolate if you won't drink wine? I know lots of stuff is about how flavors, textures, and aromas can play off of each other for contrast or enhancement, bringing out subtle things or emphasizing things to extremes. Does this chocolate need the wine for the experience?

 

No - you don't need wine to sample good chocolate (including Flight). The two pair/compliment well, but it isn't necessary.

As for your first question - there will be some bitterness in all dark chocolates, and the darker the more bitter. 65-70% is more on the mild side (think Hershey's special dark in your spectrum of familiarity - it is around 55-60%). I personally prefer 85-90% and even keep a bar of 100% (no sugar) in my lunch box. That stuff, literally about 1cm square is all you need.

 

What @RainMan_PNW said. You don’t need to be a wine guru. Just open to new things.

 

And to be open, the chocolate is made by my cousin’s husband. This is a small “pop and pop” shop that we love to support. But the wine and chocolates stand by themselves

 

My favourite kind of wine is beer.
