What dish are you guys most looking forward to for Thanksgiving?

 

Sales. Nothing that requires me to go in early, just always have due to my insomnia. It’s paid off the last couple of years though. Like most industries, inventory has been hard to come by. Beating everyone else to work by two hours means I get first crack at all of the stuff that came in overnight. My branches are well stocked.

 

Early bird gets the... stock before their competitors and dines on ribeyes.

 

hmmmm. I'll have to think about that one....

 

I'm hesitant to say, because I don't eat it the same way everyone else does.

It's yams, but I don't like candied yams. Not a brown sugar or marshmallow fan, and yams aren't a desert to me. Always grew up just having canned, that's right canned, yams heated on the stove. Scoop them onto the plate, mash them up with some margarine, preferred over butter, and then salt and pepper to taste. Personally, I forgo the S&P. Basically they wind up being like more a delicious version of mashed potatoes.

 

Stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon sounds pretty awesome. Is this specifically reserved for Thanksgiving in your family?

 

Good food is good food, and I love me some easy good food too! Not heard of "KwikTrip" but I'm not as close to Canadia as you are.

I don't know that we have any kind of treasured family recipes. I can make a pretty good ham and a tasty cheeseball, but that's about it for me.

 

I can make a ham, and I can make a cheese ball. Which one is causing the panic? lol

 

I now understand. The ham is just a glaze that I've done; one of the only good things to come from a drunken idiot that my Mom married. I haven't done one in years though, as it's for a 20 pound ham and I don't have gatherings for holidays anymore, so it's too much food.


The cheeseball is cream cheese based, and not necessarily "crunchy" but it is rolled/coated in finely chopped walnuts. No cooking or anything. You just get all the ingredients, mix them up thoroughly, roll in the walnuts, and toss it in the fridge. Once it's chilled you serve it as a spread with crackers.

 

It winds up looking kind of like this, but we always made it huge, so it was never actually shaped into a ball. more like a dome on a plate. Oddly enough, no cheese besides the cream cheese, and no meat in it either.

 

I'll check and see if the family will disown me if I share the recipes. If I get the green light I'll pop them in the Mafia Cookbook. I just have to remember to ask the family. lol

 

Bought it two weeks ago so yeah, it is good. I’m at Costco the day they get their birds so I can grab the biggest ones.

that sounds really good actually. Had some amazing honey glazed ham in Hong Kong last week and I’m craving more…

I’m here now. Dang, you guys have been busy…

Same story here. It was a fun tradition for years but became very stressful and expensive. Not the way I want to start the holiday.

 

Welcome back. Really? It's felt incredibly slow to me.

 

Corolla is finally repaired. Excited to get rid of the rental and get to drive the truck again. Had to take the rental to work yesterday in the pouring rain and it was sketchy on the highway…

 

That's good news! Is the boy ready to be back in his car? Nothing like your own vehicle.

Very. He doesn’t want to admit he likes the truck, but he definitely doesn’t like paying for fuel… I’m guessing the truck is running on vapors

 

I hope not. Always return a vehicle with a full tank. Still, a tank of fuel to get your truck back isn't too bad, is it?

 

And now I guess I’m just jumping right in to the chatty kathy mode too. Lol.

We shall see what the fuel gauge says. He helps out a lot when I’m traveling so it works out.

Decided I’d rather get to work than stare at the ceiling for 3 hours. Thankfully I’m remote today so start the clock!

 

I'm glad for the company. It's a slow final night shift and the "chatty kathy" aspect passes the last couple hours. Get that $$$$!

 

Dog barked at something about an hour ago and I can't get back to sleep. Guess I'll get up and go in to work.

 

That's not a fun way to wake up. It's a good thing dogs are awesome.
