If anything, hopefully he’ll learn to appreciate the fuel economy of the Corolla after a couple weeks filling the Tundra.

 

Right after I get the craptastic rental I get to drive into work to get some boosters for a upcoming trip. Monday traffic, booster side-effects…all around crappy day. Thankfully I’m isolating this week so today is my only commute.

Oh, he loves the mileage on the Corolla. Momma Bear already made me commit to only charge him what he normally pays for gas.

 

Ew. On both. I'd have bucked the gas bill part. That's part of the lesson of making sure you watch for idiots and don't have accidents. Even if they aren't your fault they are expensive. Better to learn it before you're out on your own, IMO.

He drives far fewer miles than I do, so running an econobox for a few weeks will save me a lot of gas money overall.

Let me tell you, the Mitsubishi Mirage is a work of art… if the art project was “makes something out of four rubber grommets, aluminum cans and a lawn mower motor”.

Speaking of dedicated winter tires, when you pick up your Blizzaks, don't forget to ask Costco about their winter tire exchange program! If you're putting them on different wheels it won't matter, but if you are mounting them on the wheels you normally run, you'll want to also remove them and swap back to your summer tires once the season is over. Most Costcos have what I believe is called their winter tire exchange program where they expect people to swap their tires out twice a year, and charge a pretty nominal fee for the service. In Vegas they would hit us around $60 to do all 4 tires; included dismount, remount and re-balance.

 

Yeah, I was just thinking about that actually. My appt is almost 3 weeks out so I might try and locate a set of takeoff TRD OR wheels or steelies.
It might take a few years to break even on that route though.

 

Especially w/steelies, cuz the lug nuts, etc. are different; plus an extra set of TPMS is another couple of hundred bucks. However, if you can find a set of OR take offs for about $500, I think I'd consider doing that, especially since it gives you spare wheels if something happens.
