Okay, time for some math. If you've earned a pension, you can cash it out when you retire or take the annuity (pension payments). If you've been with the company for decades, your payout will be (so I'm told) north of one million bucks. So, retire before Nov 30 this year and get your million+ bucks. Or retire after Nov 30 and get stuck with the new payout calculation that includes INFLATION and see that payment cut to somewhere between $700-800k.

I shit you not, I have many co-workers that are financially ready to retire (long past that point actually) who are not "mentally" ready to retire and are struggling with this equation. I get you like your job, but come on...pull your head out of your ass. And quite stopping at my desk to lament and complain about how you "wanna work for a few more years". Get. A. Fucking. Hobby.

I tried to retire but couldn't swing it quite yet.
Depending on age and health a you might out live a million.
But yeah, a million now or 800k later. No decision there. What about the annuity? Would that be a living income for the foreseeable future?

Encourage them to have an "after-life" plan!!! For some folks hobbies don't work or fulfill that desire to be financially productive. Also, I'm not sure what you do, but trust me when I say that when you spend 2.5 decades doing something high end, or what you believe to be mentally and physically challenging (especially when you believe there is purpose behind it), there's very little that fills that void the same once you tap out.

Also, be careful w/pensions and payouts. If the money went into the pension tax-free, it will be taxed at least by the feds and possibly by the state the person resides in when it comes out. It's good to encourage folks to speak w/a financial advisor, accountant, etc... so they know what those true payout numbers will look like both in the form of payments and lump sum.

Finally, a million dollars is no longer what it used to be. Most financial advisors will tell you to comfortably retire w/o worry about money requires 2-2.5 million hard cash or liquefiable assets. In a lot of cases, receiving 100k/yr for life is better than a $1 million payout. That of course is factored w/what happens in the event of death of the recipient, etc... Will the spouse still collect, or does the benefit end?? Etc... A ton of crap to consider!!!

Great minds think alike. I can't count how many government employees I know that have done that. Engineers, contract specialists, DIS investigators...

Yeah yeah...this isn't me. These are dorks that have gone through all of those questions and still cannot shit or get off the pot. The right answer is different for everyone.

That's actually a very likely possibility too...AND THEY STILL CANNOT PULL THE TRIGGER!

Really, at the end of the day I want them to stop wasting my time. I'm a great sounding board for work stuff and this doesn't count

Used my buddy’s 22” Blackstone grill this past weekend. Totally FNG’d a batch of scrambled eggs, but it was amazing.

Yep, that’s happening soon. Even confirmed I’ve got storage room for it!

Ok... since we've added a new caveat to this thread (things that are frustrating but maybe not quite up to the the what angers me thread) a huge thank you and shout out to @Green Thunder ....

So, today I get an email invite from Toyota Financial Services to apply for their CC... You've been pre-approved. Apply today! Earn points or dollars off service on your Toyota. Sure we can't get parts for your vehicle, but after waiting a few months for parts, and charging your rental car fee on your new Toyota CC, you'll have even more points for discounts on the service we can't provide in a timely manner... WTH????

Why does every company feel the need to dip there pen into other areas/aspects of business. I know Toyota offers their own financing through Toyota Financial, but now CCs???:mad::mad:

I just wish companies would stick to doing/improving what they are in business for in the first place. I get that it is a completely different branch of the tree, but seriously if you can't handle supply/demand of the real reason you're in business, you have no business trying to expand into other industries; and because some will ask, I'm talking about recent quality control and parts issues mainly.

No, I don't want to hear the excuses on why there are delays or lack of availability of parts or issues w/quality control, and don't blame anyone else up the pipeline; you are the pipeline!!! Fix it!! Work the problem!!! Find a solution!!!!

Then when you get back to doing "Toyota" well, feel free to branch out or maybe just stick to doing you and being that thing that we were originally drawn to.

Hahahah. I don’t care if you vent here. The Angry thread is evil. We are all just BS’n here!

And I agree with your rant. Some VP got it in their head that this would be a great profit center. Focus people!

Early posts were look pretty usual for a newcomer. I would only suspect fluffing if something immediately goes up for sale. Might just be somebody who trawls through all the threads to see what trips their trigger. I have a buddy who is like that.

I do like to do that but I tend to just watch old threads that I'm interested in, in case someone else revives them and then I jump in with my comments.

Ah, I'll keep stuff on watch for a while, but after a bit I drop them and only go back if I'm tagged or quoted. Personal pet peeve is the non tag and non quote responses in a bunch of threads. I always have to scroll up, or even go back pages for context and it's an irritant. This forum is really well laid out and it's easy to tag or quote, so there's very little reason to not do it, but I see some members who just never do it.
