Rough one. Spent morning doubled over in pain. Spent afternoon at urgent care.

The kidney stone is gone - some residual inflammation in the kidney that is expected and they want me to follow up in a few weeks with my reg doctor.

Basically, as I start to reflect on events before and after the stone, I’m stopped up in the colon department (but no blockage that requires surgery) and probably have been since about three or four days before the stone - it might even be what dehydrated me enough to trigger the stone to come loose.

Basically nothing they can do except prescribe me different laxatives and tell me to drink lots of water. So I’m mentally preparing myself to essentially make a colonoscopy cocktail and try to get this shit I’m full of moving in the right direction.

Oh man. That sucks super bad. Glad the stone is out of the way, but the rest of that sounds miserable. I have a buddy that had about 3/4 of his stomach removed and dietary changes wound up giving some serious constipation issues. I'd recommend skipping a regular doc and going to a gastro doc. An enema was the only thing that helped, and because it had gone on so long there were special instructions to prevent injury.

oooor, going of the same buddy's sexcapade story, astroglide.... without giving details of his story it was a mess and EVERYTHING came out. I almost die laughing every time he tells the story.

Question… I grew up boating on lakes and in puget sound (salt water area in WA). We even had a 18’ SeaRay pre-kids, so I “know” boats, but won’t claim to be an expert. When it comes to running on rivers, isn’t a jet motor a better configuration than a propeller?

The wife and I have been sucked into the Life Below Zero series. Nearly all the people on the show run rivers in AK and they all have prop outboards. I know the show “asks” the people to do stupid stuff for ratings…but a jet outboard would keep you from having to worry about running the prop into a sand bar or your fishing net.

I know about the low speed issues around steering with a jet lower…but is that the only reason to avoid them? Is it an ease-of-repair or something else?

Jets can suck stuff up, harder to work on/need special knowledge, more expensive, difficult to change speeds, and reverse is questionable.

At least that's what I got when trying a bit of google-fu. I'm not a boat guy so I don't actually know anything.

Most guys I know around here who boat on rivers run jet boats but that's the extent of my knowledge.

    No idea
Boats and motorcycles are two powered craft I have no desire to own or understand… except maybe a kayak, but I know that’s not what you’re talking about

Thinking about it... aren't most bass boats used on lakes and rivers. I don't think any of them are jet are they??

I keep fish usually just once or maybe twice per year otherwise it's pictures and release. And I really love smallmouth because they fight so well so I will never keep one but I definitely wouldn't hold it against you if you did :D

Respectable. I love the fight, but they are also one of the few fish that I actually like. Grew up getting fed trout and I. Hate. Trout. Only had bass once and it was delicious.

Unfortunately I have never caught a trout nor have I eaten trout. Hopefully one day. It's my fault, I need to get the proper equipment and go to the right places I just haven't gotten around to it

Fly fishing trout is great, but on a normal rod when compared to bass they are kinda boring unless they are huge. I mean, getting any fish on the line is a good time, but I'd way rather be fighting a bass than dragging a trout.

I guess the main reason I want to catch one is just to say that I have. Around here they are somewhat rare and from what I was told by someone who loves trout fishing is that the places that are semi near me you have to go when the water is still really cold and wear insulated waders.

For sure. Trout like cold running water.
I’ve always enjoyed fishing them, but spent way more of my childhood fishing perch and bass and crappie.

Thanks for being my Google…guess my brain was on the right path.

My natural habitat is on the water, but boats are stupid money. Stay away as long as you can. I suspect donarcycles are the same.

Except the Mrs and @gosolo made me agree to get a party barge when we are retired…so I have that in my future.

. Lol. I subscribed to boat magazines for a number of years. When they get excited about an efficient hull getting better than 1mpg you know all reality is lost. Think the smaller runabouts get 3-4 mpg at best. Probably why boating talks more about GPH and not MPG.
