The 2 best way to keep CC balances to a minimum:

Dump the wife/GF (hookers and blow are much cheaper and they are generally cash commodities, so CC use is unlikely)
Stay off of truck forums (why is Amazon still trying to sell me that damn "flexzilla air hose)???

I figured out how to get paid by the CC company. It's not much, but it works. No fee card that offers a reward you will use, whether it's airline miles, cash back %, or points for stuff at a business you patronize. Use the card only for planned expenses/recurring bills on autopay that you can budget for. It never gets used for anything you don't have the immediate funds for at the time of purchase. Pay off completely every month to avoid interest. I chose a sporting goods Visa, then used the points to get a SIG pistol for $120 plus tax out of pocket and a Mossberg shotgun for about the same. That's not counting the ammo that I've never paid for and the odds and ends camping supplies that have had discounts on them.

We got a card that gives 2% cash back on all purchases. We pay everything with that. Tried to pay the mortgage when we had one but apparently that's not allowed. Pay it off every month and apply the 2% to the balance.

 

Yup. Great way to do it. Anything I'm purchasing I try to do that way.

The card has good security and I'm off the hook if I say the charge wasn't me, so it's my travelling card for fuel, hotels, dining, etc. Hell, the first SxS I had; the finance company would let me run the card online to make the payment without it being processed like a cash advance (those have automatic fees/interest regardless of paying off when billed) so I racked up a bunch of points paying for it.

 

Kinda looks like it has already been eaten.
