Depends on how far away you are from the overturned, burning cars...

You have a point, in certain parts of the city. I always keep a little friend on my hip when we're exploring downtown.

absolutely breath taking up close. the sheer power unleashed that day is insane.

Yes. the "Mad Mountain" as my daughter used to call it when she was little. That's not my picture, but we've hiked up around there a bit. We plan to do the Lewitt trail this year (goes around the mountain - will be a two day trip) and do 3-4 days in the Mount Margaret backcountry along the east side of Spirit Lake (which is where that photo was taken).

Two years ago we did a day hike (15 miles) up to Coldwater Peak that looks straight at the crater. The lahar (mud flow) from the blast actually crested over the ridgeline just below Coldwater peak and spilled into the next drainage - miles away from the actual mountain. To see that in person, even as it has grown back up, is amazing and humbling. Seeing rocks bigger than my house and knowing that before 1980, they were somewhere in the top 1/3 of the mountain that is miles away is just amazing.

One of the old "dead men" on the ridgeline, looking down into the back side of Spirit Lake - that tree was snapped off by the blast.
    IMG_2249.HEIC.jpg

The fog lifting as we got to the top of Coldwater Peak - the whole drive up was misty and rainy...but the hike was beautiful. We crossed over the ridgeline saddle at the snowfield patch you can see at the edge of the fog.
    IMG_2202.HEIC.jpg

And the view of the destruction zone and crater from the top of Coldwater Peak

It’s worth it. In close to parking it gets busy, but put some effort in and you’ll be absolutely in awe.

We checked out the tourist viewing area a few years ago. I expected it to be a bit boring, but it was amazing. The scale of destruction was crazy and humbling.

Outside of what gets WA in the news, we are very spoiled here. Especially if you live in the Seattle region. We are a two-hour drive (or less) from any climate you can imagine, excluding a true desert.

I hope Everybody has a good day.

I'm getting ready to make a 600 mile round trip to be at a banquet where a buddy is being presented with an award. Gonna be a long day, but it's important to him.

First couple legs of the trip down. Can't complain about the mileage. First one was running 77-78 MPH while the second was at 71 MPH.

    ignore the dust.

The high school my daughter teaches at just won their 3rd state championship. 62-21. They played the same team in 2019 and lost in OT. 30 degree game time temps and I froze my ass off on aluminum bleachers.
Couldn't get tickets this year, but saw some live streaming. For a public school they do pretty good, even have a guy in the HOF.

    Hi, Everybody.

How did all the Texas Tundras fair in the hail storm? Hopefully none are too badly scarred.

First night shift of seven. Based on the hand off from the previous week's crew it should be quiet. I'm prepared for it not to be, but if it is, I'm not sure how I'll pass the time.
