    Random thought of the day:

I have a journeyman red seal trade under my belt. I'm 3/4 of the way done fire fighter training school. Likely switching into another trade next year while applying to fire depts. Now I'm thinking that when the academic section of fire school is done I should enrolln an online, self paced Bachelor of History with a minor in political science from a local university.

Aiming for 2 trades, specialty fire training and a degree by age 40. The Woman thinks I'm crazy. Should I tell her I'm also kicking around the idea of EMT school? :D

Had a friend give me shit for being excited about my heated seats considering I live in Texas. But, leather gets cold and even at 35* the seat heaters are so awesome. I couldn’t imagine not having them now.

Knowledge is everything. The more you know the more valuable you become.

    With that being said.....

Go get a real job and make some money. You can't go to school forever!!:censored:

LOL! I wish I could go to school forever. It'd be easier. I currently work 60 hours a week on average. I need to work less! I've been in the welding trade for 10+ years. Trade school was a total of 6 months, split into three 2 month blocks over 3 years. Fire school is being done online in the small bit of free time I get. The history degree would be done online as well. Other than the 6 months of tradeschool, I haven't been in full time school at all since graduating high school. Been working in one way or the other since before then too. :p

Dunno. Probably nothing. I've always loved history and have wanted to study it in a more structured form. But I realized there are no career prospects for it, hence why I entered the trades. Now that I make a decent living and am on track to start applying for a dream job (firefighting), I can pursue the degree as a side thing. The 4 year degree would probably take 6+ years to finish with the program I'm looking at. Instead of wasting my evenings watching tv or playing video games, I can be studying something I enjoy and earning a degree. Looks like it can be done by plugging away at it a few hours as week.

I've also always wanted to be a well rounded person. I've proven I can work with my hands as a professional tradesman. Now I guess I want to prove I can work my brain as well.
