These muppets managed to get my number from somewhere. I get about
2-3 a day, soon as they call I block them

I have one extension number at work that I can never give out due to the amount of telemarketers that call. That being said, I have taken it upon myself to have that number as a test phone at my desk. Sometimes, being the phone guy, I play their game when they call. I think that I almost caused an international incident with some Indian or Pakistani guy a few weeks back.

Sadly they usually don't think I am funny and hang up !!

 

I like to play stupid all the time. They usually give up fairly quickly. Love the ones that really try though...they can be fun to play with.

One guy called up once asking for someone.
I whispered, "There's no one here by that name."
I mean, there probably is, but if you think that I'm going to take it upon myself to look through an employee directory of almost 1500 people you've got another thing coming.
"Why are you whispering", he asks.
"Because I'm in a library."
He then asks, "Are you a librarian?"
"Sometimes", I reply.
"Are you going to hang up", he asks.
"You first."
He then says, "No. You. I have all day."
Game on you ignorant knuckle-shuffler. I'm a Veteran and a phone guy. I can "hurry up and wait" all damned day. Plus it's a secondary extension.
"We'll see about that", I say.
I queue up the hour long Youtube Jeopardy theme song on my cell phone and sit the cell phone next to the phone.
He's barely lasts four minutes.

I made a guy tryna sell phones stay on the line for 40 minutes once. Just became a yes man and I could just hear him get all giddy. Then it was the let down...."on second thought, I dont really like the deal anymore".....
Holy hell he lost it hahaha. Yep waste MY time will you.

 

That's the best thing to do to them. Waste their time. Keep the telemarketer on the phone as long as you can.

 

I've only recorded a telemarketer interaction once. And it was pretty crappy. For many calls, a bunch of folks called looking for Russ or Russel. Well, I'm not Russ or Russel. "Not even close, bud." But I did take up the name du jour of "Russel, the librarian". Below is my single recording. Remember, it's pretty crappy. I'll try to do better. I attempted to play stupid. I'm not very good at that. I gotta think along the lines of Forrest Gump or a RAM owner.
