Pretty sure the internet is God's gift to insomniacs. Much easier to deal with it if you can do something or get some kind of interaction.

I've always heard of those rent to own places and for curiosities sake I decided to go on their website and see what they had to offer. Holy. Shit. $17.49 for 78 weeks to own an Xbox series s. That is a grand total of $1,364.22 for something that retails for $300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!! Lol obviously it's not ideal with a house but at least it makes more sense because it's such a large purchase that realistically trying to save up to pay for a house entirely in cash is incredibly difficult whereas trying to save up entirely for an Xbox is completely doable and if it isn't doable then you don't need an Xbox.

Exactly. People often don't realize what they don't 'need'. But even with homes, most people buy outside what they can sensibly afford and wind up wasting horrible amounts of money on huge loans. For some, it's like they give up and give in to the madness of everlasting debt, and pay the minimum on the 30 year loan; when they could forego X-boxes and extravagant dinners and pay off the loan earlier. It's tougher on families when you want your kids to have things and go places; but I bet nobody on this thread is more fond of having played Nintendo when they were a kid than they are of sandlot baseball or wading in a creek catching frogs. To your point, it's all about choices.

    Congratulations!

Cutting the loan term in half cuts more than half off the interest, even at minimum payments. My wife and I (granted, we're DINKs) were able to pay off our note in less than 5 years, and only paid about $17k in interest. With a smidge of the roughly $250k of interest waste we saved over minimum payments on a 30-year loan, and keeping our 10+ years old cars for as long as we could stand; we paid cash for a new '20 RX350 and '20 Tundra (and mods... and more mods...). We're not wealthy, we're just willing to forego some extravagances lots of folks take for granted. Plus, no kids on the payroll... Being out of debt makes money way more powerful.

    Thanks!
Congrats to you guys too, that awesome dedication!
Except the house loan, we're debt free. There's a lot of things I want that I can afford but either don't want to spend my cash or get another loan. With one exception, I need a tractor and might get a Kubota 0% loan and keep that cash in the bank making 3%.

Our house will be paid off on Monday, 15 years early. No other debt. We pay for everything with the credit card and pay it off every month. 2% cash back card.

We're not tightwads but we definently try to live well below our means. That makes things like a new pool pump motor, which I had to get today, no big deal.

Thanks, it feels good for sure. We had to move 15 years ago to get our youngest into a different school. Only way we could afford it was a 30 year mortgage. The house we moved out of was 3 years from being paid off. No regrets, daughter got a masters from William and Mary. She was headed for a HS certificate in crack whore in the high school we left behind.

    Just a local Credit Union.
It's a secured savings account, couple stipulations to it. Must deposit at least once/ month (we set up auto deposit) and you can't touch it for 6 months to start earning 3.1%. If you withdrawal, the 6 months starts over.

Nice, we have a money market savings account at our credit union. You have to have $1500 in checking, everything over that goes into the savings account. I'll have to see if they have a similar option. The savings account was only paying 0.75% last I checked.

Just bought some crossbars off of ebay, seller has a good rating so hopefully they're as good as pics look and new straps are included as stated in the ad. Will be saving almost $300 vs purchasing everything new.

I must have a really bad allergy to fish and it's extremely fast acting. As soon as any fish touches my tongue, I get an immediate gag reaction and feel sick to my stomach.

I seem to remember you saying that there's a place that does battered and fried fish that you drown in tartar sauce and booze and you're fine. Sushi has a lot of flavorful sauce options, and you could have sake with it. You may just be a closet sushi fan and not even know it. :boink:

I actually like the sushi that doesn't have fish in it, I think it's the California one. Then again I might like it cause I cover it in wasabi, soy sauce, and those pieces of ginger before I eat it. At that point you really don't taste the actual piece of sushi.

And that's just nasty to me. I don't like sweet potato rolls, spam rolls, or the ones with big chunks of mango.
