Whatever this forum told me to do
    Funny story about cords

when we bought the lake house we needed wood for the solo stove thing

    so

I bought half a cord thinking. - shit that’s only half of a thing

    well

that was so much wood , I had stacks everywhere

It took us a year to burn that load

Now, I just have the guys give me scrap from the warehouse

we use untreated CD rough cut lumber*

    usually dried pine

It makes for a decent burn

However: We just had a big project deliver from Transylvania or who knows where

but the pallets were dense old oak. I’ll snap a picture of the growth rings

that shit burns long and hot

*one of our business lines is export packing. We pack big ugly shit in tough lumber boxes for overseas delivery

Slept like chit last night. Was pretty active during the day, so not sure what the issue is. As usual, had to get up when I was completely out so I'm in a very bad mood today...

Getting back into teaching my daughter to drive; she turns 16 next month. With my son, you could tell him something once and it was retained. Not so much with my daughter. Had to dig deep to keep the mood positive and level during our 90 minute drive this morning.

Sounds like @GODZILLA slept well so I'm glad someone crushed it...now I just need to maintain for the rest of the day.

Hope you all have a great Sunday

I appreciate your sacrifice. Sorry you didn't sleep well and it's impacting your day.

Teaching kids how to drive takes a load of patience and an understanding/acceptance that you might have to use your insurance to fix their learning curve. LOL

Where I grew up there was no driver's ed. You could go get the booklet from the DMV, study on your own, and take a written test to get your learner's permit at the age of 15.

After that, you had to rely on whoever was a legal adult that would let you drive with no passengers. Once you turned 16 you could go take the written driver's test and the practical/road test, but you had to provide the vehicle.

Too really blow your mind, guess what wasn't in the practical test at all..... parallel parking. It was only in the written test.

There was no parking in the test when I took it 15 or so years ago either. I think they added it at one point then took it back out again.

Oh, we had to park the car, but it was a standard thing at the end of the test. There wasn't any kind of specific scenario stuff, they just checked to see how you did at the end and scored you for it.

I had to take time out of my summer to sit in a classroom at the high school for the classroom portion and then went on drives with an instructor afterwards.

I didn’t have to parallel park 20 years ago either.

We had two driving tests when I got my license. Did the first one at 16 and the second one at about 20.

Alberta for sure. They had this idea that to make drivers safer, they'd do this "graduated license" thing. So you take the first test at 16 (at the earliest) after 1 to 2 years of having your learner's permit. If you pass the first test, you can drive on your own but there was 0 tolerance for alcohol, 8 demerits instead of 15 and you couldn't have more passengers than seat belts in the car. They also tried to limit people on the GDL from driving between midnight and 5 am but that didn't last long.

Then after at least 2 years of diving under those conditions, you could take another road test and get your "full license" - basically have all those restrictions removed.

One of the problems with the program was the registries running the driving tests were greedy so they would almost always fail someone taking the final road test for the first time to force them to pay for another test later.

They ended the program last year and everyone who was on a graduated license like my wife and my middle brother automatically have their full licenses now.

    Interesting.

As IDK what the demerits are you are talking about, though. Can you elaborate what that means? Is that like how many fuck ups you get before you lose the license or something?

The curfew thing is dumb for a license. I understand it for the learner permit, but if you have a license you are probably working and tons of jobs have hours outside that curfew.

The seatbelt one is a law here, so it makes sense to me. Everyone has to have a seatbelt.

Young pups. Took mine 36 years ago. Did the summer school gig as well. Had to get up at 7am to get in line for the driving test as there were no reservations.

Had to parallel park…in an Chevy Astro van. Got a deduction for not finishing in 3 moves (haha). Fuck you dickhead; I didn’t hit a cone.

Flubbed backing around a corner; missed a head check.

Got a deduction cuz dickhead didn’t see me do a head check before a lane change.

Was nervous AF after all of that and didn’t take the free-right at an intersection after making a full stop. Dickhead ding me for that too.

    Nope, not bitter at all.

Yeah, once you get to 15 demerits, you either have your license suspended or confiscated or something. I'm not exactly sure. You get demerits typically for anything a cop would pull you over and write you a ticket for. Speeding is the most common one but you don't get any for photo radar tickets.

The seat belt thing is a bit odd here because technically the driver is only responsible to ensure anyone under the age of 16 (if I recall correctly) is wearing a seatbelt. If a passenger over that age isn't wearing their seatbelt, they'll be ticketed, not the driver. But I think that rule about the number of passengers and seatbelts was intended to cut down on reckless driving by making sure there weren't cars full of rowdy teens tearing across the countryside.

I will say, I am proud of our daughter for her driving skills. I taught her how to drive in the snow, rules of the road in winter (and non), how to get out of spin-outs (snow), how to properly panic brake, how not to “door up” with someone at a light- stay in their blind spot. How valuables, including purses are not to be kept in plain view, backup everywhere u park for easy exit, doors locked and windows up even at drive thru’s, watching all mirrors, all of the time etc. I then enrolled her into TopCops (retired cops) driving school for her lessons that are repaired by state with a certified instructor. She passed every lesson with flying colors. Somehow she’s still accident and ticket free :D

Ya I’ve been feeling it the last week or so. I have a dental appt tmrw for a tooth so I’ll ask them to check that too to make sure it’s only a result of a sleep bite, and not a sore or something that needs antibiotics

Don't feel bad. I had to retake my license test. Some idiot ran a red and almost hit us while I was making a left turn. The tester got spooked so she failed me.
